I've had imprezas now for 8 years and this Saturday a nice man from down south is coming up to potentially buy my car ..

Odd how fast things changed, I can afford to run it and I'm certainly under no pressure to sell it but I dunno .... I just feel like I need something more practical ... This time last year I was washing it weekly, adding little bits here and there .. Now I feel like I'm wasting it ..

Sure it makes me smile when I push the loud pedal .. But I long for heated seats .. Cruise control .. And dare I say it .. A quiet drive ..

I've now got two kids and at 29 .. I think I'm getting old

I thought the same, and didn't even drive my car for 2-3 months, and during that time i didn't miss it for a second.

However, i drove it this week, and remembered why i kept it!!!

My car is my only vice. I don't drink, do drugs, or smoke.... so need to get my kicks from somewhere!

I done the same lastyear, sold the STI Wagon and bought an A4, loved the Audi, it had everthing but boring so swapped it for an STI Bug.

I was gonna sell my STI for similar reasons, couldnt really make my mind up. Finally put it up for sale got little interest and only silly offers. So i kept it and bought a golf estate diesel for my day to day car. The golf is great its smooth, comfortable, practical, economical and so damn BORING!!(thats germans for ya)
I love the scoob even more now and have finally got round to carrying out some of the mods i wanted to do.

Having sold 3 imprezas I would recommend having a friend with you when people view the car. I had 5 ******* turn up in a cavalier and got all arsey when i would not let them test drive my sti.

I'm 31 and have thought about mod cons and what not and my Jeep has a few - never use cruise, heated seats would be awesome because the leather is soooo cold!!

I may well end up giving in and getting some boring car but I'm leaning more and more to buying another classic. We've got the wifes Leon for big mile duties so I can kind of get away with having thirsty cars - My Jeep is 4.0L and does 200 miles from £80. I could probably get away with using the jeep for 6 months of winter/spring and a nice classic for 6 months of summer/autumn (one year of tax then )

I know how you feel; about 6 years ago I sold my STI and bought a BMW 330D. I still have the beemer and it's an excellent car, I drive it to work every day and really appreciate the comfy heated seats and smooth, relaxed 6 cyl engine.

That said, I do also keep a P1 in the garage for fun... I was only without a scooby for a year!

Think you'll regret selling it, i know i did.Remember the day i sold my sti wagon.The new owner was chuffed to bits when he sat in it turned the key in the ignition and the electric mirrors folded out,don't think he expected that to happen on a scoob.I did shed a tear as he drove off and heard that boxer engine pull off and the sound got more distant.So i had to buy another STI,although its not my main car.To be honest you can have all your fancy gadgets,Nothing like going back to basics sometimes.

i kinda have the same issue, the scoobs my only vice, yet with various house things etc on the horizon i keep thinking i should sell up and get something cheap
with the small loan and money i put aside for ins/tax/mot/serv halved id prob save 3k a year not including petrol
but as i can walk to work i dont really consider the petrol aspect till im on a long trip :d

still i reckon id be bored sh**less with a 4k runabout :/

I've had to force myself to use the Scooby now and then for work .. just paid £360 for full service and MOT and thought .. **** .. this is just a money pit ..

I sell now and then in 3 years when the kids are in school I buy something again ..

I got totally pee'd off paying all that money to own a fun car only to find every time I took it out I was stuck in lines of traffic doing 40. Everywhere I went it was like it so sold it for a big 4x4 with leather and all the toys. Now I still have to get stuck behind the same idiots but now I don't care as i'm comfy with all the toys, loads of room and not paying through the teeth for something I can't enjoy.

Just remember diesels can be a money pit too which I never realised. My Passat tdi sport had a dual mass flywheel which was going to be £800+ to replace when the time came. The fuel pump on my 4x4 diesel was not so long ago £3k but even after the recent price drop was still going to be £1500 all in.

I felt the same as you. Sold the Scooby and got an M3 Evolution instead. Very nice car but eventually I changed it for a Mini Cooper which is very nice to drive, handles very well, easy to park and very much cheaper to run.

I loved the Scooby of course but we are far better off all round as we are now.

Never found scoobs that pricey. I bet Ford would take the same off you for a Mondeo with the heated seats etc.

Also, if it's too noisy that's yer own fault. Put a slightly more neighbour friendly exhaust on it!
