Points on driving licence ??

How long do penalty points on a driving licence remain- sure it used to be 4 years this still the case ?? also is this from the date off conviction or what ??

It's 4 years but a lot of insurance companies ask about ny points in the last 5 years, I'm getting mine removed as soon as I can be bothered to get the relevant forms.
