Default MTB Flat Pedals & Disc Pads

What do you all recommend? At the moment I have SPD pedals and some dual SPD/Flat pedals but have issues with both.......
I am wanting some flat pedals but am not sure which to buy. Budget would be £40 tops for a pair.
Also I have a set of Avid Juicy hydraulic brakes but my pads have become contaminated so are now crap!!!! (Jetwashing really doesn't help) There are standard, Sintered and organic ones available so again, Not sure which to go for. My riding is mainly offroad in usually thick mud and lots of uphill sections.
Advice greatly welcomed.

I used SPD's on my MTB for a while but found I was chickening out on more technical descents for fear of being stuck to the bike, already got caught out getting a bit carried away with a wheelie. I used to always use the Mt. Christophe plastic type toe clips with straps back in the 90's but didn't fancy them now. I went for a trusty old pair of Tioga Suregrip caged pedals with a nice new set of retro Powergrips, im quite pleased with how they perform, nice and easy to get out of quick, fairly easy to get into too. You can also just stand on them if you want to as well.

LOL, The reason I am not using mine. I will continue to use them for road riding but for anything like a red route etc.......FLATS! I like my ankles to stay in one piece LOL

Best flat pedals in my opinion are DMR V12 (or V8 on a budget), so so grippy, just dont let them hit your shins at speed or they may leave a dent (like i have)!

They are one of the first things I fit when I have a new bike, however I recently removed mine for Shimano SPDs but tempted to switch back.

Nothing wrong with SPDs off road! If you need to unclip then you will do it - unless you're not confident of course?

I recognise this quote!

Had them fitted, and within 200 yards looked like I had been bitten by Dracula!

Many thanks all. Bought some DMR V8's today. Impressed on the 30 mile offroad ride out today.
