Default Oh dear. Will I get a refund or exchange ?

Got my son an iPod 2 as he's also on mine

But I plug it in to my computer and it's dead as a door nail.
Nothing, googled all the problems and tried it on 3 other computers and still nothing.

It came from John Lewis, but I purchased it on the 3rd November to spread the cost of Christmas.

Will I be able to get a refund or will it be replaced with another new one ?
Anyone got an idea as I would like to go out tomorrow and get him another one and just return this to JL
Save him waiting another day

Hard luck. Unless you've obviously bust it you will get a refund as it's not fit for purpose. And John Lewis are a decent company.

If it's faulted, you should get a replacement or refund.

It's probably worth just mentioning it was bought as a present, hence you didn't know there was a problem with it until now.

Go straight to an Apple shop and they will just hand a new one over simple as that.

Yes you will get a refund or a brand spanking new one if they have one. I'm sure Bluewater will be great fun with the start of the sales

12 month warrenty so it would be covered anyway.

Most shops allow longer returns over Xmas to allow for the gift factor, I am sure you will have no issues getting a replacement.

Have you tried holding in the power button and home button in for up to 30secs or until the apple appears. I have come across this before so could be worth a try

Of course you should get a refund. You entered into a contract to purchase an iPAD2 from John Lewis and it is not working, so it is therefore not fit for purpose.

Shops sometimes (I doubt a store like John Lewis would.....) come the "you will have to accept this or do that".

If they start that milarky then I always insist on a full refund, period no if's but's or may be's...... that is what you are entitled to!

If it isn't working (faulty), you should at the least get it fixed or replaced. The fact it's a decent store, I'd expect either the above or a refund, and I'd think if they do replace, it will be with a new one.

Obviously different shops handle these problems differently, but if something like this was to happen where I work (although we don't sell such items) we would exchange or refund a faulty product. Generally, most decent retailers will be more flexible around Christmas time wise, but you still have 6 months to challenge whether something is faulty anyway (if memory serves me right, it may be longer)

Retail law is quite complex, but for the time involved and the circumstances, I wouldn't get too worried, you should be fine.

Under the trading standards act, you will be able to get your item replaced.

1. all products come with a 12 -24 month warranty however this can be extended at customers request.

2. Your dealing with two good firms n no dodgy stuff.

3. if john lewis said no for some strange reason then tell them you want to speak to the manager and tell him that you will seek advice from trading standards..... you watch how quick he changes your ipad and chucks you a freebie lol

Take it back to John Lewis. I bought a Toshiba laptop a couple of years ago, and after a couple of weeks there was a problem with it. They replaced it straight away, no quibble.

Yes. I got a new Smartcover for my iPad - bought at Heathrow Dixons - because it was looking a bit shabby from the MK Store.

Refund is probably the best way forward, as if it were exchanged with a new one you'd only get 10.5 months warranty left on it, typically with the majority of consumer goods the warranty only covers you from the date of intial purchase. So even with a brand new replacement item the warranty may stil be dated from the 3rd of November.

Of course Apple might not work to this policy, but alot of other manufacturers do, not just electronics, but even white goods, car parts, and even furniture!

This is why when an item I purchase goes faulty a while after purchase, I always try to get a full refund first, so I can get the full 12month warranty when I replace it.

PS...Christmas lights will be retuned back to the DIY store this January...couple weeks old and a dozen bulbs have failed (not user replacable either). Full refund please....then I'll buy a new set next christmas
