Show us your MTB`s :D
I have 2 decent MTB bikes now, so i thought i would show them off a little :-)
2011 Boardman HT Pro - my day to day XC bike that i blast about on 2-3 times per week to stop being a fatty-balatty
Current mods
Carbon bottle cages x2
Vader saddle
Halo bolt on skewers
HT Nano pedals
203mm brakes front and rear (totally destroyed the stock 160mm ones coming downhill )
Self built wheelset, White Novatech Hubs, DT Swiss spokes, Superstar "techno lime green" XC-430 rims.
1998 Specialized FSR Ground Control - my project pimp/restoration project
Bought for around £130 at the start of the summer just as i dislocated my shoulder
When i picked it up.
Quickly into the man-cave for inspection.
Start on the strip down
Testing the new colour choice on the rear stays
OOOO, PIMP!
Longer fork added and a quick test build.
Shorter stem fitted.
As it stood outside on saturday, still a lot to do!
Current FSR spec
Full respray in Copper paint by moi :-)
Rebuilt £30 ebay Rock Shox Psylo fork (due for change)
Stock bars painted white
RPM Crank (due for change)
Outland CNC pedals
Outland Stem
Deore XT Shifters/leavers/rear mech
Deore LX front mech (due for change to XT)
A2Z Rear disc brake conversion
Cheap Tektro brake calipers (due for change to Avid BB7)
Avid 160mm clean sweap disc rotors
Mavic 317 rims on Formula hubs
Random unknown saddle/grips that came with the bike.
Future plans are a longer travel front fork and a conversion kit for the rear that gives more travel at the back end.
Which do i prefer riding? they both ride totally different, generally i am a lot faster on the Boardman, its hard, twitchy and really shifts out of the turns, but the FSR is like riding a nice sofa and just sucks everything up
Apart from the mammoth jump i attempted a mere 2 months after dislocating my shoulder (which was feeling pretty good) and ended up with me stuck in a ditch down the side of a hill for an hour unable to stand up due to the pain and blacking out that will be a smashed up ribcage, a semi dislocated hip (never actually felt it pop out/in) and a mangled wrist, 3 to 4 months now since i did that and the hip is still not right, the ribs still hurt when sleeping on my side, but the wrist and shoulder seam a lot better!
The bike ended up with 2 buckled wheels after i landed a bit funny and appear to have hit a tree at some point (it smashed my glasses on my face
As the FSR one gets more and more towards the vision i have of it in my head, it gets harder and harder to pick a bike when i`m going out for a ride.
I need to choose one for tomorrow night after work

Bordman is a nice looking bike but it looks like you have standard pedals, I thought you would have gone for spd's?
I used to own a Carrera Vulcan mtb but as it never really went off road I sold it and bought a specialized sirrus elite instead which has far more in common with a road bike but can handle the odd canal path

I will never sell it
The crazy "enthusiasts" i meet when i am off down the coast all seam to love it, me and the missus were off out for a ride last sunday and this gaggle of MTB folk came past while i was waiting for her to cross the road, i noticed one of them had a new Stumpjumper FSR, so i made it my mission to take him down
Me and the missus attacked them, i was so proud of her she stopped later on to blow her nose and as soon as she noticed them gaining she pocketed the hankerchief and got back on the pedals

These are the pedals i have on the Boardman
Not keen on SPD clippy in types, to be honest, once i lose it, i dont want to be connected to the bike at all
I lost my footing a few times on both bikes while on the stock pedals, but once i fitted ones with grippy shin smashing pins, ive never had a problem since.

PMSL, i was at Chopwell 2 weeks back, it was so unbelievably slippy on the powerline trail, i went to get off the bike to walk down a jump, and slipped in the mud, falling over.

Chopwell is in gateshead, its a lot smaller in size compared with Hamsterly, not worth a trip if your from down south, i think a full Chopwell loop is about 8 mile, although it does have some decent red/black sections and a seesaw to ride over

have you been to hamsterley? we did the black 2 weeks ago the the red yesterday, we were very disappointed with the red, it just seemed to be fire roads until we got to the transmission and accelerator. the gully was a bit boggy were it was perfect 2 weeks back. we did about 7 runs down the transmission - that run is pretty much mountain biking perfection for us!

Yeah, 3 times this year, and i only got back into mountain biking around may this year
A hell of a lot of fire road type stuff at Hamsterly, to be honest, i dont mind them, i quite like the climbing now as i seam decent at it (compared with all my mates who give up and push)
Section 13, Transmission and also the Acceler8 section straight after Transmission are superb though, i keep meaning to try the skills loop, but everytime i go, i always forget it, a couple of my mates ride the proper DH course, thats pretty evil!
Chopwell is around 30 mins drive from my location so its ideal for me, but.........
Hollywell dene is around 5 miles ride from my home and i usually include this on my after work rides 2/3 times per week, it has simple bridlepath type stuff, but it also has an off route jump section made by the locals, with plenty of stupid stuff, including one jump that launches you over the river, its a really small trail/area, but handy for learning new stuff, they have a couple of DH tracks and well down the hills, including the one i smashed myself up on
Very short, but pretty sweet.
This video was filmed the same day i smashed myself up, the two lads in it actually found me in the ditch and helped sort me out after i had been at the bottom for an hour wondering WTF was going on

I'd love a decent MTB.
Seen a few in a shop in Ambleside. Lovely they are, absolutely lovely. Pricey though. About £2000.
If I can sell my flat and move closer to work, I quite fancy getting one.

Gotta love inners, once you get to the top anyway! There was a fair chunk closed on the way down a few months back. What's gisburn like? It's a bit more local to me.
