Default App download problem.

I`ve got an HTC Desire and I can`t download apps anymore. The reason, they download to my phone and then if they can be moved to memory card, I move them....but, my phone memory is full (got about 14gb on card) and none of the apps on the phone memory can be moved. Anyone had this problem? It would be ideal if I could default download direct to my card (unless there is a way and I don`t know )

Suppose you could do a backup of some of the phone apps, delete them, then download and move the new apps. Then restore the phone apps. Not ideal, but will work as long as the new apps can be moved to the memory card.

Have you still got the user guide in your PDF viewer?
Page 137 says home>menu>settings>select the unknown source check box and tap ok to the dialog box that appears. It then says all apps will be saved to the storage card.
See if that works.

Another thing maybe worth mentioning, if you find your SD card is getting full and your not sure why. Have a look on there for a LOST directory. Mine had managed to grow to 5GB, deleted everything in there now though.

My SD card has 14gb or so free, it`s the internal phone memory that`s full.

It's actually: Home->Menu->Settings->Applications->Unknown Sources

Several options;

1) You can try as recommended the Apps2SD app. It will tell you what can and can't be moved
http://www.appbrain.com/app/app-2-sd...android.app2sd

2) Force all apps to be installed to the SD card (*If they are keyboards or widgets, you'll have to move them back to the phone for them to work after a reboot)
- I did this for a few months, until it still eventually filled up.
http://androidforums.com/desire-tips...implified.html

3) Root your phone, partition the SD card and use a ROM that supports Apps2SD. (*This sounds complicated, but is easier than #2 and ultimately opens your phone up and fixes it.) I have done this now and the 4GB SD card is now seen as 3GB and 1GB has gone towards internal memory, tricking the phone. You can also get battery life and a whole heap of other things.

Got to there but a warning came about allowing non market apps to be installed but did it anyway but no dialogue box came up and nothing about apps being saved to card.

Only the apps that can be saved to SD card will be, ticking options wont change that, they need code in the apps, that not all developers have implemented. You have the 3 options above. I've had unknown sources ticked for nearly 2 years

Aye, they dropped a bit of a ball with the desire's internal memory, hence the Desire S coming out quickly. It still managed mobile of the year accolade.

Which new one you looking at? My GF has just got the Sensation XE, lovely phone. My 2 year contract is up in March 2012....about the time rumoured for the HTC Edge. Quad-core goodness.

Well I was gonna stick with HTC (sensation XL).....then I saw the Galaxy s2 I`m very tempted to go for the Galaxy...but I prefer the `look` of the HTC Or.......I could hang on cos there`s no rush, well apart from low storage

I've just bought both for a friend (S2) and the GF (Sensation XE). Gotta say, i much prefer the XE. The build quality for one stands out, the S2 is too light. The curve on the back of the XE makes it fit in the hand better. Sense is lovely, touchqwhiz, is more like touchwhaz. Played a video on both (2GB BD Rip). Yes, the screen on the S2 is lovely, but hardly, if any difference. Throw in the fact the beats audio and free beats headphones, i'd take the XE any day. That's from personal experience of playing with both.

Most review i saw gave 2 points to the S2, 2 the to XE and a draw, yet still said the S2 won. Hmmmm. Anyway, as always have a play with both. I rooted, S-OFF the XE in a matter of minutes. So SetCPU is running, to save battery and tweak performance.

http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/htc-sensation-xe.htm

We used Dialaphone, got it for £21.50 p/m, took off data to £15.50 p/m for 2 years, which can be reduced to £10.50 after 9 months. Then had £45 topcashback, referred from me another £10, sold her blackberry £50 and a dialphone referral £20.

We've paid £172 over 2 years. Not bad. She loves it and was really hesitant about leaving her blackberry behind.

Cool, good to know, thanks It`s actually the XL I was thinking about, not the XE but I suppose they`re similar
