a) Everyone thought the BB tablet looked good in preview and there are 800,000 sitting in a warehouse somewhere gathering dust

b) In this case however that looks ****.

Thats crap:

buttons too small for any real use, and no way of direct menu access without having to go back to the touch screen...the whole point of buttons and trackpads is to save faffing around with a touch screen.

Samsung did this on their Tocco Ultra in an attempt to get best of both worlds (keys and touchscreen), where in practice it was worst at both....it was awful, mainly because the only way to navigate on the phone was to use the touch screen, rendering the keypad pointless.

It's one of a few new devices that will be released next year and they will be leaps and bounds better than the current devices. I can't say more than that as I am bound by a confidentiality disclosure agreement......

"RIM has also taken a charge of $356m for unsold PlayBook tablets, which were launched with much hype earlier this year."

The two chief executives said they had reduced the cash element of their pay packages to $1 per year.
Funnily enough this is exactly what Meg Whitman the new CEO of HP did when she took the job.

And.....

It's Official: First BlackBerry 10 Smartphones Won't Be Available Until Late 2012!

The official word is that RIM wants to put a chipset into the USA-bound LTE BlackBerry 10 phones that will not be available until mid-2012. This pushes the rollout of the first BlackBerry 10 phones into the latter part of 2012. Mike Lazaridis followed up with clarification, adding they need this chipset in order to deliver the efficiency and battery life that customers expect from a BlackBerry.
Very disappointing news I have to say, and really does start to make you wonder if RIM can hang on in there or not.

I for one hope they dont go, as much as im loving my Android S2, I would still be lost without my BB

Im predicting someone will pay way over the top for RIM, not know what to do with it and then shut it down. (see HP/Palm)

Hope that isnt the case, its nice to have something different on the market.
But I make you right, they are ripe for the picking right now, especially with a 10% dive in share prices.

There was rumour someone wanted them, but I cant remember who.

Would be foolish to dump 7 million customers / subscibers just because you dont know what to do....

If anything i rekon google would buy them and use the BBM side of things to bolster the google social side of things.... The instant email will always be a hands down winner

Since everyone is now using PUSH, once only really used by RIM, it would be fairer to call RIM's version SHOVE now, as its clearly superior, and much much faster.

Wow so this is what it feels like to be Jack

I would hazard a guess that RIM will remain, as more a service than a product manufacturer. I cant see BIS and BES fading away any time soon, but maybe their time actually making devices is coming to an end.

Like I say, I hope not as I like the form and function of mine.
