Default Market research needed: when do you buy your xmas tree?

Hi, I have been asked to conduct some basic market research to find out which weekend in December people buy their Christmas tree (or nearest date). I would really appreciate a few seconds to build up a picture. Sorry it's nothing to do with Subarus.

Options are:
1. Sat 3rd / Sun 4th or earlier
2. Sat 10th / Sun 11th
3. Sat 17th / Sun 18th or later
4. Don't buy one
5. Own an artificial xmas tree

I always bought the real ones from an organic farmer up the hill. But even those ones started to give me breathing problems, and my health always went down hill as a part of the aftermath. Now I have a very nice artificial one from Homebase. I bought it in Decemer 2010. Much better with no fear of fungus an moisture inside my house, no trouble of trying to keep it alive, or to take it to the skip afterwards etc. I even put it up on Friday night. No stress of buying a fresh one every year any more.

We used to buy a real one every year around the 10th-15th but they were just a pain after a while so last year bought a fake frosted one. Should last us for quite a few years now

Probably two serious replies on this thread.... I don't buy one, but if I did it would probably be about a week or two before hand.

Got a really good fake one about 15 years ago.

Looking the prices it's probably saved me £1.5k.

If anyone says you dont get the smell I spray a Pine Glade at them (£1 from most Tescos)

Happy Christmas.

I have two artificial ones. a small one for in the window and a 'space saver' at the back of the living room. I bought one 6 years ago, the other 2 years ago.

Sadly this year it will probably just be the one, as we know have a massive hampster cage where the larger tree normally goes.

Sorry to say Tony but the "real" one you bought last year may drop a bit in a year or so

Off to get mine tomorrow, can't wait this year.

My two year old is going to love decorating it, and from then on it will be "nearly" christmas in my house. I'm not ashamed to admit I love it and look forward to it all year.

This year going to my parents for Christmas Day / Boxing day and then on the way back stopping at the missus parents for a few days so on that basis a real one would be a bit of a waste so the artificial one will go up sometime soon.

7 ft - £22 from the farm near us on Sunday.

Chose the one we wanted and then watched it being cut for us. Fresh is best!

Smells lovely!

In total, I have 6 fake Christmas trees by now. one beautiful Master tree is in the living room. One dead ancient small green tree is a revolving, fibre-optic one. One black plastic tree was for the madam's room when she was going through mosher phase. TBH It did look quite good with silver feathers on it. Rest of the 3 are black, see-through, jute ones from some garden centre on the Wirral. They look magical with their mellow, built-in lights. All the rest but the Master tree are resting in the loft, but I will stick one of the jute ones in my dining area. It has a potential to build relaxed atmosphere for dining.

Interesting results so far - 10 out of 36 buy a fresh tree every year - that ties in with there being 7 million trees sold a year and about 25? million households

How much are we looking at Les? I have never bought a real tree, only had the artificial 7 footer in my one bed flat! It does tend to take over somewhat.

I saw some pathetic looking 2 footers in Homebase and alike for 22 quid each. Garden place down the road is selling some big and bushy ones starting from £40. Bigger and fatter they are, more expensive they get. Latter and fatter do look quite alive and stately.

She said that one bloke was asking £60 for the sort of tree that most families used to buy without having to think about it!
