Has been. Tonight's was poorer, just because it had less wildlife. Amazing parts of the world though, no doubt.

Antarctica - the size of Western Europe

Those Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis, are pretty impressive.

Anyone know how I can get them as a screen saver?

Stunning in HD (analogue already switched off round here, so HD on freeview finally works).

People complain about paying licence fees, but when you look at the cinematography here, it is amazing. I don't think any other private channel could justify the funds to make this...not even Discovery Wildlife. Its just a shame alot of BBC funds are wasted on making mainstream dross like Eastenders and unfunny sitcoms (my family).

But is it CGi or not? I'm struggling to tell if parts of it are real or computer generated. Some of the footage seems humanly impossible...it has to be done with a computer, right? or maybe not?

A fascinating programme as we have come to expect from David Attenborough.

The photography is quite amazing, especially those intimate shots of animals and their young.

I don't really care how they got the shots, I am quite happy to sit there and enjoy them.

Great photography, I would not expect anything less from the BBC, but they're really banging on about the effect of global warming in this episode. I'm waiting for message that would do all the tree huggers proud.

In fairness, he didn't say what was causing it. Just that something is happening. Which is true.

There is no mention of it being man made or not. Which is good, because nobody knows for sure so should never be stated as fact (as much as the activists would want to). Fact is if its not man made, and cannot be averted by man (which I believe is probable regardless of what the activists say), then some people are going to need to buy some waders in a few decades time. Thankfully the majority of this political bulls**t has been kept out of this program.

You're quite right. Thankfully we were spared that. There is no denying that these events are not occuring but the content of the programme was such that I was expecting the "if mankind doesn't change blah blah" message, eg. The hint of human activity in oil exploration in the north.

Attenborough has shown in some of his films how his crew (Attenborough included) gets the shots. One of them was when some of his camaramen ventured out on a mission, got caught in the snow blizzard, which continued for 3 days at about 90 mph. They thought they were destined to die. I thought the same. They astonishingly found themselves alive afterwards, so did their top-notch camera on the tripod; which did succeed to capture the required. What an experience it would have been for them when they once filmed the swarms of colourful butterflies covering almost every inch of space around them! WOW! That was, of course, in the different part of the planet (I better explain before Duncs wonders what butterflies were doing with the penguins on the North Pole ). Watching how Nature gets filmed with very high-tech equipment on gigantic hoists, cranes etc. is like > It is very interesting to learn about the extraordinary efforts put into capturing the most amazing stuff on the lens. Attenborough and his crew do have a great job.

I agree.

There is enough evidence to indicate that whatever apparent warming has been seen could well be cyclical anyway.
