Default Any mechanics out there claimed any tool tax allowance ?

Just as above really , i had a letter from one of those no win no fee things saying i can claim tool allowance from being a mechanic ..

Carn't i go straight to hmrc myself and claim something ??????

anyone done it ????

I have done it -got back £1800! you print off i think p87 or p82 form off customs and revenue, fill in 1 form per year you want to claim. You can claim up to 6 years back. It takes couple of months then they ring you up and ask you questions, then shortly after that you get a cheque

Dont forget you need all the receipts or you can't claim

I done it I rang up tax office they sent the form out just copped the details off me p45 and attached 6 years worth of snap on receipts then had a nice chq come thro them once a year you just do it again

I think it perfectly reasonable to claim a tax allowance for the cost of the tools of your trade. They are quick enough to take money off you after all.

is this just the £120 a year thing you can claim as i already claim that or is there something else i can claim for as well?
