Default The Environmental Protection Act 1990

The offence..

If anyone throws down, drops or otherwise deposits in, into or from. any place to which this section applies, and leaves any thing whatsoever in such circumstances as to cause, or contribute to, or tend to lead to, the defacement by litter of any place to which this section applies, he shall be guilty of an offence
Drop a Mars bar wrapper and you are liable to a level 4 offence on the standard scale, £2500 max.

Have a fu*king massive firework party in your garden, with used rockets on my roof and on the bonnet of my car, no problem.

What happened to the 'Keep Britain Tidy' campaign?
We had it drummed into us as kids,TV,posters & at cubs/scouts etc.
It worked for me as I now find it physically impossible to litter.

I have seen kids today sitting on the bench near my house drop litter even though there is a bin next to the bench!!!!Drives me insane.

I wonder when the last time someone was prosecuted for littering in the street?

What would you rather do, pass a law which says "firework parties are now banned because the spent rockets are untidy"?

Rockets used to be a narrow tube about 2 cm wide and about 8 cm long attached to a thin stick the length of a school ruler, now some of them are like a litre washing up liquid bottle with a garden cane attached, enough to do some proper damage !

Only last week apparently. Dropped a cigarette end in a private car park but got caught doing it by the council guys. Not sure if getting a fine counts as being prosecuted as such, but it is punishment for an offence.

Not all that long ago at work, an old lady scrumpled up her receipt after she had gone through the till and threw it on the floor, even though the bin was a couple of feet away from her. You wouldn't believe the amount of rubbish we have to pick up all over the store due to lazy people with the attitude of 'someone else will deal with it'. It's not even like they have the excuse that there are no bins nearby.

I think he is merely pointing out the double standards.

Why can one person be punished (fined) for dropping a small piece of litter, yet because when it comes to the litter produced by fireworks, it's fine? It's litter all the same. I'm not saying people should or shouldn't be able to freely set fireworks off, but I can see his point.

I hear that in Exeter there are snoops parading around in civilian clothes who will land you with a £70 ticket if you drop a cigarette end!
