Default New Venture!!!

Thinking of starting a business in artwork, including wall murals and pencil drawing. I have drawn a few samples to show what I'm capable of (these can be seen in my user profile as artwork )!!! also thinking of drawing pictures for the petrolheads (like myself!!) as requested ie. Personal cars, rally scenes, etc...
Also does anyone have any ideas how much I could charge, or you would be prepared to pay, for this type of artwork?

Anyone interested ?

If you're anywhere near Nottingham I'd possibly pay you to do a car mural on my lads bedroom wall - £100 -£150?

Work out an hourly rate, say £15. If a picture is going to take around 3hrs to complete, charge £45. If zip's mural were to take 10hrs, charge £150 plus expenses. Oh, and make sure you're better than chocolate o'brian.

Why are you turning down work, it's only a few hours away? I'd be taking every job I could until I could afford to be choosey.

Sorry mate, but your nowhere near good enough to make money from what I've seen in your profile pics. they look like childs drawings. I know I sound harsh, but just being honest. I'm artistic myself, and have sold many paintings over the years, which I do in my spare time. Its bloody hard work, and sometimes its just not worth putting in the hours to try and make a profit through drawing/painting etc.. I can earn more money doing an extra few hours overtime at work a week. If you enjoy it, then fair play, but its a different ball game if your wanting to make a living out of it.

Just had a look at your profile - you probably ought to develop your skills a bit more before hawking them out.

I was trying to point this out, but nicely, in his other thread. Has potential but need to up the hours and detail to really get some worth while commissions.

Sorry to the OP but if you enjoy it carry on and just do them for friends and family see if word of mouth gets you any little extras.

I haven't looked in his profile.... should I have done?

What I meant to add to my first post, is that I found a very talented graffiti artist who can do a full wall mural for around £150 inc spray paint, in 3D, using many colours.
I've seen his work and it really is stunning.

I would suggest the same - I recommend getting some more practice - my nephew is a professional artist and in my view he is very good and he really struggles to break even.

Maybe focus on murals for kids. Build a portfolio of a dozen designs, hone them and build from that.

All above dam good advice although response I got on other thread may not go down well.

Trout - sad story for so many new artists as so many about. Tell him to keep at it though great to look back in years to come. When you go through old portfolios of where you were at and which style you used etc quite funny!

He works in Barcelona does some street art work and gets the odd commission.

He earns enough to live in Barca and get beer (lager) tokens - so it can't be all bad!

Fair play sounds like he is having fun, doing his art and some for a good time. I admire street artists just flow and make it look so easy. I was always a studio type and no one sees it till I'm happy. Which as you more than likely know artists never normally like their own work and I still dont like seeing mine! Ha ha

In the 80's and 90's a mate of mine used to draw car pictures: in the VW scene: so beetles, campers, ghias etc. he also did shop front sign writing. he also had prints done, went to every vw show and did a few sales.

he scraped a living: and his drawings were so good, we're talking Haynes manual accurate.

I've only met one bloke better and he really does do haynes manuals drawings !

what killed it, was vinyl cut graphic plotters from PC's (the sign writing) and cheap colour copying. he couldn't compete with what people could buy for pounds that cost pence to produce.

Ironically my dad had an art gallery for about 14 years in his retirement, so I like to think I've a fair eye for art.

looking at yr drawings on yr profile, I'd say, keep practicing, but yr way off being able to charge anything other than a few pounds for beer money.

one of my mates, for example, he now trained up to do CAD and does kitchen drawings.

crap job, but its a like to his talents.

the other guy has just been head hunted and a swiss company relocated his entire family out so he can draw technical engine drawing stuff.

so keep yr chin up and who knows.

personally if you'd have drawn a lot of distorted disney charactors on my dtrs wall, I'd have made you paint them out so you didn't scare her !!!
