Default Virgin Media TV VS Sky

Does anybody have virgin media for TV?

I currently have sky and the contract is about to expire. Does anybody have Virgin TV? What is it like in comparison?

Sky is slicker. But more expensive and not as versatile IMO.

Virgin's V+ is a little more clunky on the menus etc, but TIVO should up the game with this (not tried a TiVo yet). V+ can record 4 things as the same time (three in the background and the fouth on live pause) which has come in handy on a number of occasions.

Also the bundled broadband, if via cable (not ADSL) is also vastly superior - both on download speeds and ping times. Sky has to rely on how well equipped the local telephone exchange is, which is a bit of a postcode lottery.

Customer serivce? Well virgin's call centres are pants. But if it goes wrong then they will fix it for free and credit you for the time you are without service, howver you may need to make a few phone call attempts at getting this. I was never offered this with Sky, but it seems from the other thread in NSR you can get stuff done for free with them now - how long that remains or if it applies to every Sky customer remains to be seen.

Anybody wanting the following deal, send me a PM and i'll give you the guy i spoke to...awesome deal!
The trick is to ring him and explain your wanting this deal, you want to cancel your current virgin package in your name and set it up in partners/mother/brother ETC so your treat as a 'new customer' all 30day cancellation fee's are waived...bit of a pain as you will have to wait circa 35days for your refund of any monies on your CURRENT package to be refunded to you, and your new bill will be 2x £36.40 as you pay a month in advance...

£36.40 per month for 12 months - NO SETUP COSTS
500gb Tivo main box (free installation AND activiation)
V+ HD box for bedroom (free installation AND activiation)
XL TV with all HD channels (note no movies/sky sports packs)
M landlane
L broadband (10mb - download speeds of 1MB/s)

He single handed, reduced my bill by £25 a month.....told him i'd get a shed load of people taking that deal...i get £50 credit per recommendation and i'm positive you get something too although i'm not sure.

anyway there you have it...let me know :-)

Have Virgin as I couldn't get Sky when I moved a few years back (line of sight prevented satellite).
If you have ever had Sky I would say you'll hate Virgin, even if you can reord more things at the same time (Why? There's **** all on!)

We're moving next week, and I still have to have Virgin until next May (I signed up for bigger broadband for free and apparently it's an all in one deal that I am tied in to).

Come May 2012 I am switching to Sky. The Virgin Media telephone call answering service is IMO the worst on thiis planet.

we were with virgin for 3 years, left to go to sky due to problems, gonna take a risk and go back to virgin again next month.

Virgin is cheaper for the base package (virgin xl tv package vs sky equivelant).
Virgin comes with espn chanels for free, sky charge for them.
You can get sky sports and movies on virgin if you want it anyway (couple of quid more expensive, but still cheaper than sky)
on demand is much better on virgin (although dont have any time plus).
Virgins internet is way better and you need to have sky broadband to get sky anytime plus on demand.
Picture quality tends to be a bit better on virgin, bad weather also affects sky, although only done it one night on ours.

We left virgin cos box's kept breaking, well we've already had a box break on sky.

Have virgin for some yrs and not had any problems with service/broadband.Wouldn't go to sky broadband/package because of having to change to BT.

I'm thinking of cancelling my tv,don't really watch it and most of the channels you pay for on the XL are repeat channels or the programmes now are not very good,HD channels are ok but don't think is as many than SKY.

This is the best package.

Sky are great at tv and HD, crap at phone and broadband
Virgin do the best broadband and phone but their tv is pants.

Pay the extra and get tv from sky and broadband/phone from virgin if you can

The best thing about Virgin is not having to have anything to do with BT.

Fast broadband
Most of the channels on SKY
Sky menus are better but you get used to Virgin.

Got a Tivo 1TB coming soon so hopefully will be a better viewing experience and userbility

Dad has Virgin which is fine for him but he ain't bothered how good his HD looks. It is pants compared to my Sky HD. FWIW we both have identical Pana Plasmas. Sky every day of the week for me!

virgin is good for the broadband and thats about it. virgin boxes are crap and you dont get as many channels. if you want sports or movies they cost a lot more than sky too.
