But even the top of the page quotes are still way over the top for cars that are basically worth a few hundred quid. I dare say we were all the same when passing our driving test,we wanted to tear off the L plates get in a car and drive.luckily insurance wasn't such a big rip off like it is today.I had a peugeot GTI when i first past my test and insurance was reasonable from what i can remember.

Years and years of kids being silly in cars and the new generation have to foot the bill! After all it's not on the value of the car but the damage young drivers can create.

I paid just over 1k for my first car a 1.0 carb metro in british racing green, I then had a bright idea to put a motorbike exhaust on it I know it sounds weird but I do miss it occasionally well the running costs anyway

Insurance companies gave new drivers a chance a few years ago with cheap prices.... they drove like prats, had crashes, and the insurers have had enough of it.
These high prices are the insurers way of saying ''thanks, but no thanks''.

If I had my way, I would put all those Injury Law firms on a big boat, put them out to sea and sink them. Scum of the earth.
Cutting a long story short, one of my Clients is a huge farm. Earlier this year, a bloke in a Golf, ran into the back of the JCB. CCTV footage, shows the Golf driver was on his mobile when he hit the JCB. JCB was indicating to go right, Golf tried to overtake £10k worth of damage to JCB, Golf set on fire and JCB driver got the bloke out, safe and sound.
3 months later, Golf driver has sent Injury Law firm onto the Farmer and now the JCB driver. It's a flaming joke.

My 19 year old has given up all prospects of driving as we couldn't get a reasonable quote, nothing under £2.5k - he sold the car he bought off my mate as he couldnt afford to run it
Now the fines for not having insurance are cheaper than buying the actual insurance
As for insurance companies - fecking hate them - I had an accident 3 years ago and they must have sold my details as I've had about 50 phone calls from ambulance chasers in the last couple of weeks They've all been told to **** off

It's a sad situation when young drivers are having to pay the stupid prices quoted.
I have a solution........................ALL( no matter what income) new drivers should HAVE to drive a 800cc car which SHOULD be be made here in Britain, it would create a business worth a fortune for Britain and it would get new drivers some experience of driving before they jump into their Saxo's or whatever. This would surely make sense, all new drivers would then gain the road skills and fewer would be injured or killed in accidents hence lower insurance premiums.
What do you think?
I sit here with flame suit ready

Well I simply don't understand this. I used to have a 205 turbo diesel, a nippy little engine, which my 20 year old used sometimes when he lived at home. He was down as a named driver and insurance company even put him as OK for business use as he had a part time job driving to schools to teach kids music. Insurance around £350 with protected NCD.

A friend of mine waited until he was 25 to buy and insure his car due to stupidly high quotes on run of the mill *****ers.
He only bought an Escort S, and suprise suprise the cheapest quote he could get was £2400, this is due to not having any ncd, he's had his licence for around 2 years.
He couldn't afford the insurance in the first place, and still cant justify the prices.

Insurance pricing is weird;
I own a BMW 330ci,
I'm 28 years old, 9 years n.c.b, no claims to report and held license (clean) for 10 years.
The cheapest quote I could get was with Admiral at £1300ish.
I add my Dad as a named driver and the price drops by around £100 to £1200ish. This is understandable as he is a lower risk driver.
Here's what takes the p1ss;
I then add my YOUNGER brother on the policy as a named driver, now he is 26 years old, had his license just 2 years. I would class him as a higher risk than me with 8 years LESS experience driving and being younger.
But the price dropped by around another £90.
Thinking I'm on a roll I add my sister in law to the policy. She only has a provisional driving license. Price drops by another £100. How the heck can she be a lower risk in a high powered rear wheel drive car than someone with 10 years driving experience?
I paid around £1000 in the end but was tempted to go knocking on neighbours doors to see if I could add the rest of the street on to my policy.
