Odds are someone in those cars was probably filming their lap and footage will soon be on the net

Some nice metal pretty badly bashed up there

A couple of videos made it on to Youtube but have now been pulled or made private. The one that is now private gave me the impression the roadworks had very little advance warning.

There's a rear cam video still up though - skip to 9:50...

Yep, from what I've seen this was due to a poorly placed roadwork sign around a blind corner where most cars will be travelling at over 100mph. You can see the ring taxi crash in that video.

Surely they should be briefing every driver who goes through the gate as to where these road works are. Very bad track management IMO. And unless those drivers have track cover then they stand to lose a lot of money. Bad times.

From what I read, the ring Taxi only got involved, as it had nowhere else to go.

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=24438

as you can see in the video the Vette hadnt been involved at that point...

looking at the way all the other cars rocked up, it was inevitable that others would get tagged lol

The corvette was a hire car lol

Did you read the article?

"Another car, a BMW M3 ring taxi, did not pay attention and crashed against two of the decelerating cars"

Massive amount of posts on PH about this. At the end of the day it's a public road, and if you choose to drive in a manner which means you can't stop in the distance you can see, then you've only got yourself to blame when it all goes wrong. I don't see how anyone can point the finger at the road works as they could have just been a broken down bus or car, and in the unfolding amount of impacts it was just that.

Looking at that vid, I'd say the road workers need to bear some responsibility. Who in their right mind puts a great big sign like that up right across the apex of a blind bend

Which is why I suspect all the YT videos keep disappearing. This looks like a lawsuit in waiting!

The BMW M3 CSL owner is a friend of our IT guru.
The police are involved and it looks as if he will have to foot a 130,000 euro bill for all the damage caused.
He reckons he may have to sell his house!

When our IT guy came in on Friday, he proceeded to tell me about his friend that had recently written his car off around the ring. He couldn't it believe when I showed him the video on youtube.

'Global news now I'm afraid.'.

Isn't there something called 'track-day insurance' that covers for at least 3rd party damage?

**** a brick.

Poor sod (and his family if they're to lose their house)

Although as I've been told, if you hit someone on track you're under no legal obligation to pay for their damage? ( morally, though...)

So he knew the risks then.
This is terrible if this is going to put his family in financial jeopardy.
But, everyone knows the risks when you go to the Ring.

He needs a good lawyer as the location of that construction sign was negligent in my eyes.

All he needs is for 12 good men and women to agree and he is off the hook. He can then sue the road workers.

His car insurance will pay, they have no choice: EU law compels them. What he has to worry about is their likely attempt to recover their outlay through civil court here.

He needs to change his name and move his insurance address..... By preparing now he can save his home, marriage etc.
