HELP LONDON PEOPLE - LONDON UNDERGROUND HELP
I need to get to Devon on Thursday and am thinking of trying the train rather than hiring a car.
My train gets to London Bridge at 8:30 in the morning (nightmare) and ive got to get across london to Paddington
Is my easiest route by tube ? using the Jubilee Line, changing at Waterloo on to the Bakerloo line ?
Or am i better off jumping in a taxi london bridge ??
Or just hire a car on a one way journey ???
Im not good with London and have never been on the underground .... HELP!

Depends what you are travelling with. laiden with luggage etc, get a cab, on foot, get the tube (will be packed)
Car for a one way journey is ok I guess, but a pretty long drive. Let the train take the strain?

Tube without doubt.
Never ever get a taxi on that route ! It will take twice as long at best and cost a small fortune.
I'd probably go on the northern line, change at bank onto the central line then again at notting hill onto the circle or district.

For the love of God dont do that in a cab.. will be expensive!
i get the train from crayford to waterloo and onwards every day and its not that bad if you only have a rucksack. I have done a cross london train/tube trip with full leathers, crash helmet, boots etc in rush hour and still survived.
from charing cross it is only 10 minutes or so by tube to paddington mate.

Tube is fine if you've only got a rucksack - just be prepared for a bit of pushing and shoving. I'd go Jubilee line to Baker Street and change to Bakerloo there. Once you've shoved your way onto a Jubilee line train best not to get off it until you are through central London and out the other side. That time of the morning the Bakerloo line shouldn't be too busy from Baker Street to Paddington.

If you were to get the train, I'd get the train to London Bridge and the walk across the bridge (10 mins at most) to Monument and just hop on to the West bound Circle line to Padington (20 - 30 mins).

Wish, get the Jubilee to Baker Street and change to the Bakerloo there. The walk is just a few metres whereas at Waterloo it's miles (or seems like it). I used to travel Pad to Canary Wharf and it takes about 35-40 mins so you'll be looking at around 30 mins, however I should warn you, the queues at London Bridge for a tube will be horrendous.
Jonc's shout of walking to Monument is a good one although his estimate for a Circle line to Paddington is VERY optimistic. You could take the Circle/District to Embankment and the Bakerloo straight to Paddington or you could take the Central line from Monument (well Bank station which is the other end) to Lancaster Gate and walk to Paddington from there.

Plus the majority of the scummuters will be going in the opposite direction on the jubilee line.

I regularly travel exactly that route and Matt W's route is spot on and in my experience even the London bridge queues aren't that bad. Get yourself a travelcard to save buying multiple tickets. Jubilee is easy to get to at London Bridge and as the most recent tube + air conditioned it's the best line to use too.
Don't be such a jessy about London/tubes. It's simple really and certainly much easier and quicker than driving or the way or getting a cab across town in the rush hour.
