British Airways new advert

pretty much was, virgin offered to take one for the cost of what BA paid for them £1 and keep it flying even if it cost them money. At that time it had its saftey certificate back so could have carriede on. BA refused, even though they got them cheap from the tax payer.

Just what I heard.
I thought BA wanted to keep them anyway and Air France were the ones that wanted to stop?

I heard it was to do with Air France as well and not just BA. Some sort of agreement dating back to the original contracts that if either BA or Air France didn't use them then no one could.
Just what I heard.

BA's line were they were not financialy viable, so were being retired.
Virgin didnt; care and said they'd run one at a loss if they had to just to keep one in the air

It's not as simple as buying just a plane though is it, surely they would need to employ the relevant engineering expertise and spare parts etc, would they make enough revenue with one plane to cover the costs? It's not like buying a 747 for example where you have the support from Boeing for parts etc.

Concorde's in it a lot but I hate the advert as they're playing an a British icon, which they ditched a couple of years back. If it was so pivitol to BA's future why did they can it?
Hmmm. Mentioned to the wife earlier that I thought that ad is cr*p. She agreed!

Ever heard of PR? If you haven't then you have now.
I actually don't know the finer details but I am little wiser than to believe "BA didn't want to run them anymore but Virgin offered too".
As said above there were huge safety concerns, massive financial shortfalls due to the recession and a maintenance program that also cost a fortune from specialist engineers.
Maybe just maybe Virgin would have run them at a lost for good PR but the reality is shareholders would not accept Concorde losing money for a sustained period.
Virgin spun it beautifully and some of the public fell for it

Once Air France had declared that they were retiring Concord, then the full cost of engineering support for the airframe and engines fell onto BA. That burden was not cheap when shared between two airlines, unjustifiable when taken on by only one. This led Airbus to declare that they were withdrawing their airworthiness certificate, making it impossible to fly Concord commercially.

I personally think the advert is utter sh1te. The worst flying experiences have been with BA. I refuse to fly with them. The advert is misleading too, show me a concorde with an airworthiness certificate

I think you will find there are a few planes in that advert that aren't used anymore, not just Concorde!

I reckon a lot of the older stuff is actually still flying under the permit to fly scheme, infact I took a ride in a rapide today at Coventry airport & I suspect that is a lot older than Concorde.
BA are *****. All IMHO of course.

If you don't having flying Concorde in your fleet then don't have a flying concord in your advert.
I understand this is meant to be a timeline commercial and that other planes not currently in the fleet are shown but the Concorde is shown right at the end and leading the chase implying that it's current and still flying.

I don't rate BA at all tbh. Had bad experience with them and would never recomend them to anyone
And how can you make a new ad and use a plane that has been removed from service? I think that bit is more like false advertising tbh. I also can't believe though that there has not been a plane to replace the Concorde yet
