Ideas for an 80th birthday present
My Dad is 80 in November. I'm struggling to think of a suitable gift.
He doesn't want for anything.
We've got him and mum a weekend in a decent hotel booked, together with a close family meal the following weekend.
I'd like something special for 80, but can't for the life of me think of anything.
Any ideas or experience. Thanks.

Had the same sort of problem with my old man before he "conked out", he had most things, the presents/gifts, but the ones he used most were, small swiss army knife,on his key ring, kept his nails clean, a pair of heated socks (bikers) for his wellies, automatic greenhouse window opener, stainless steel garden tools, and two walking sticks, one tall, to lean on, and an antique black cane, with a round silver top, for taking to the pub!!,

id suggest thats its something not to exciting, unless you're in for some serious inheritance? in that case it would be 12 strippers with ****** and cream.
if not what about a years membership to english heritage so he can go around all the stately homes and gardens (I prefer the first option).

My dad was 80 in August, he loves red wine so I bought him 12 bottles of expensive mixed reds that he likes, which he would'nt think of buying himself, he loved it the greedy old sod, I never got a drop

what did he used to do when he was in his early/mid twenties.
He might like to experience a bit of nostagia. i.e. silverstone track or dancing. Whats his favourite movie? See if you can get a local cinema to show his fav film? or a bit of effortless adventure (most of the way), go across the tunnel to france in a train, pop into a shop in france, get a paper, get back on train, stop by booze factory and fill your boots up, back on train and home sweet home with a load of drink and a happy pops.

Why not buy him a title? If you google personalised gifts, you can buy him a square metre of land in Scotland and he will get to call himself Lord of ........... wherever you choose. It's great as it means that the land (usually beautiful green, country type areas!!) cannot be sold for building as easily and he will have himself a title!!
Then, get lots of photo's of him through the years and make up a book of the Lord of........ life and have it professionally bound. Great keepsake of his life and will be something good for you to keep in the future.
