If i was Cameron, i'd be putting my feet up with my cold beer, knowing i'd taken the necessary steps to put the UK back on track, happy that my economy wasn't going to be dragged into the mire from full Euro membership. In fact i'd be tempted to have a few extra beers so that i did lose a little control, just to know how it must feel for Obama, Merkel, Sarkozt et al at the moment.

Well, the opening paragraph states:
They can control the UK's response.
I noticed on your petrol thread you posted this:

Well, the Tories have been in control for quite a while now .... and it looks like they are happily leading us down the path of another recession - this one will be Tory led, so a LOT worse than the last little fiasco!

and there was me thinking this country was actually starting to take control this last year or so and working a slow way out of it.
or is that what they are just wanting us all to think, i feel like other countrys are in mega dodo and were are slowly going from downwards to a pause and hopefully one day start climbing out

Pete, this is way bigger than Tories, Labour or whatever, it is global, don't overestimate our importance.

Certainly, if the Eurozone and USA are in the doldrums, even if we were doing better, we'd still be dragged down by our trading partners, not that we export much at the best of times.
As has been said, if the 2008 crisis and subsequent recession was due to world events (which I think largely it was), then the same can probably be said of the UK's current situation. In insurance jargon it's known as "proximate cause"!

We can only live in hope. Can we do it with our dearth of a manufacturing base now?
