Default 118 500 BT

You probably know this but if not be warned.

If you use 118 500 to find a phone number you are given an option of writing down the number or letting BT connect you.

If you write it down then you can call yourself at usual rates or free if you have an unlimited call deal (£4.70 per month btw).

But if they connect the call for you you pay £1.39 per min so a 30 min chat will cost you £41.70.

I think the technical term for this is RIP-OFF

I think some folks need to pass a test or get a licence before being allowed to use technology.

118 500? Do people still use these services?

With Google at home and on mobile phones, who needs to pay for information like this?

I seem to remember reading something recently about 118 118 doing exactly the same thing - but then they do have to pay the Dave Bedford lookalikes...

You are a classic "youngster" speaking. There are a lot of older folk who don't actually use Google or have mobile phones and actually used 192 for most of their lives. They then get a letter from BT advertising 118 500 which fails to spell out the fact that a 30 min local call that BT connect will cost 40 quid, which, to rub salt in the wound they can possibly ill-afford.

I stand by my post. It's a f,ucking rip-off and BT know it.

Thumbs up

Well in my usual 1 o'clock in the morning Meldrew moment I wrote to Mr Warren Buckley, Managing Director, Customer Services asking him to justify his charges.

Of course it won't make a scrap of difference but it made me feel better.

Personally I blame Murdoch .....
