Honeymoon in Mexico? Any recommendations/input??
Wondered if any of you guys have any input on Mexico as a honeymoon destination?
Wedding plans all go for May next year and most of the wedding is sorted with deposits paid etc. We just need to decide on where to go for our honeymoon
We can spend around £2.5/3k max for two weeks and want somewhere really hot, decent nightlife and lots to do in the day (jet skiing/paragliding/snorkeling).
Ive never been that far before and obviously want it to be a bit special for this sort of money, and am slightly scared of making a wrong choice
Any input/advice on where to go/not to go would be great?

Cancun is the best place for a honeymoon I have been twice and you really will find it hard to beat. Make sure your hotel is quite close to the centre the riu is right in the centre and make sure your hotel is sea side and not lagoon side.
Anything else you need to know just ask.

Thanks for the reply
So is there a center for the nightlife then? I thought it was kinda spread out
A sea view is definitely on the list! As is a morning diving

As mentioned Cancun has a centre with clubs and bars (good ones too). All the clubs and bars are all inclusive, once you pay to get in drinks are free
We stayed at the Riu Cancun right in the centre
Loads to do.. the Jet Skiing is great - $35 for half an hour.
Loads of good excursions too -
Swim with Dolphins (great),
Xcarat - like a natural water park with underground lagoons, canoes, 4wd buggies
Jungle Tour - Go out through the lagoon in individual speed boats to a reef where you tie up and go snorkling
Many more things, just book through your rep or find a local tour place to buy tickets.
Cancun is the place to be. Full Stop!

Oh and Senoir Frogs is well worth a trip, get some food and then watch it turn into a crazy club complete with water slide out into the lagoon

Went in May this year, we stayed in Riviera Maya about 20 min drive outside of Cancun. Went to into Cancun once for a trip called the 'Jungle tour', you get your own two seater speed boat (which is pretty fast) and follow a guide through the 'Jungle' which isn't exactly tarzan jungle but I suppose it sounds good Anyway you go through the jungle and eventually after about half an hour you reach the Carribean where you moor your boat to others and then go snorkeling on a reef which they told us is the second biggest in the world next to the Great Barrier. This was the highlight for me. Can't help you on the nightlife part although friends who have been and people out there say Coco Bongo is the place to go. Weather was amazing at the beginning of may though I was told that getting towards the end and into June etc is rainy season though I know from reading reviews after reviews that you can quite easily go in those dates and later and see no rain.

Ali and I stayed at Riviera Maya - about an hours drive from Cancun.
Plenty going on in RM, It's more upscale than Cancun - Moon Palace is meant to be the dogs though!!

Be mindful that there have been a couple of Murders at the Moon Palace in recent years. There was one there when we were in Cancun in 2010.
Seems it was a staff member but was covered up by Police and Hotel

Moon Palace does look nice in the brochures - but in reality seems more like an upmarket Butlins. It's a very large resort hotel (IIRC it has about three different receptions in different parts of the resort) - and I'd much prefer a smaller, more friendly hotel...
Hence I've stayed at Excellence Riviera twice now, and it's been fantastic - but neither it nor Moon Palace are what the OP is looking for as both are miles from the nightlife in Cancun (which is a good thing in my book!).
I went on a day-trip to Cancun, and was glad to get out of the place - looks awful... but perhaps that's just because I'm not 25.
Cancun area is fantastic though - many many hotels and the people are very friendly and welcoming (at least the ones that dont murder you at MP!).
I'd check out Trip Advisor if I were you...

Was in Mexico 3 weeks ago for a fortnight , went last year in may to the Toucan in Playa car , not too far away from Playa Del Carmen , 10 mins in a taxi , and plenty to do there in the nights , not on the scale as cancun , in May it was very hot and sunny.
June runs into the rainy season and was worse than normal while we were there , typical !!
We had 6 days of monsoon / hurricane rain while we were there out of 14 ! so I wouldn't recommend this time of year.
This time we stayed a bit further south nearer Tulum , in the El Dorado seaside suites which ranked well on trip advisor , It was a nice place , but the entertainment wasn't that good , and it was too far from anywhere else to go , we did go to Playa del Carmen one night but it was a 45min taxi ride , so not somewhere that I would go to again.
I played Golf in Moon Palace last year , and its a massive place , and heard about the troubles when we were looking last year , it didn't put us off going , but you can see from the poverty over there that the claims of bribery and corruption probably does go on.

Moon Palace is vast and heard it's real luxury, but i'll say my piece...
the Royal Cancun.
http://www.realresorts.com/The_Royal_Cancun/
We had our honeymoon there last May and it was fekkin glorious. DON'T be swayed into going for the rooms with their own pool area outside the room, as they are on the ground floor and all the other peeps can see into your room walking walking by. Get one of these rooms...
http://www.realresorts.com/The_Royal...te_Oceanfront/ and you'll be thankfull. Maybe get one on a high floor and you'll have awesome views.
Here was our's...
IIRC we paid 5k for the two of us flying from Glasgow in Premium seating, all inclusive, with upgraded rooms. We DID however manage to buy Thomas Cook vouchers off Ebay which off-loaded some of the cost, but i got heavily stung by a dodgy seller, so be carefull if you try that route.
If you want any pics of the rooms and actual balcony views, give me a shout.

Do it, we spent our honeymoon in Mexico and loved it.
We stayed at the Eldorado Royale, no complaints. Lovely place.
We went in to Cancun three times, twice during the day, once using the free shuttle bus provided by the resort for a day out, once to do the speed boat tour thing mentioned above and once at night for a bar crawl type thing organised by the travel company.
Loads of bars and clubs in Cancun. Coco Bongos was good but so, so busy.

Hotel Sirenis - went there last year for honeymoon - could not fault it - best holiday ever! Riviera Mayo - superb - sign up for the honeymoon massage. WOW! Absolute bliss - champagne everywhere.

Thanks so much for all the reply's guys
We are definitely going to Mexico now, and having researched the hotels mentioned and tons more, we're going to book the Riu Cancun (cheers Mamoon2 ).
We have found 2 weeks all inclusive, with decent flights and baggage etc for £2,600 flying from Manchester he others look great but are really pricey
Sure we will spend a shed load once there but don't really care, its not even booked and im getting excited just thinking about it
