Sky TV question?...
Assuming you have the dish etc, and a sky box - then cancel your subscription to Sky, can you get any free channels through the Skybox, or do have to change to a free-sat box or whatever?..

yep still can - dont even need a card in the box - my sister uses my old PACE sky box in theis way.
In theory if you phone up SKY they have to send you a proper freeview card for free......
I think this gives you a few more channels

you can pick up free sat providing you have either an old sky box or a tv that can decode it. my dad picks up both through the tv as you switch between the different inputs.

Hmm OK - I was shooting in the dark TBH - lol
I'm sure they used to be free - or am I dreaming here..?
Still a cheap freeview box tho, as pointed out above....
It galls me to pay SKY every month, I can't even bring myself to pay an extra tenner for HD

No Dave on Freesat so it's no good to me I'm afraid!
Saying that, the only reason we stick with Sky is for the childrens channels. If Nick Jr and Cartoon Network were on Freeview then the Sky dish would be gone!

It grieves me at £18.99 per month.... lol
I'm too scared to phone them up as I've been on the same SKY package for 15yrs....
I know that the package I'm on doesn't exist anymore, so if I go for the HD pack they'll stiff me over on what channels I get.....

I brought my old sky box round to my girlfriends house, we get the 5 terestial channels, bbc3 & 4, ITV 2, 3 & 4, ch4 & more 4 & e4 and their +1 channels, the CBS channels, some movie channels but not the Sky one's, some cartoon / kids channels, and the dial-a-w@nk channels (so I'm lead to believe ) but not 5* or 5usa !!!!

My Broadband is Virgin ADSL - been using that for years too, no Cable by us - dont want to use SKY for BB as sky have no News Servers Big no no on that front
Used to have SkyTalk - but went back to BT - was cheaper!
Do you reckon I'd keep all channels except for Movies & Sport? - I thought they were all in 'Packs' now - like kids pack, history pack, discovery pack etc etc
I know my parents dont get the History channels now, and they pay about £38 per month (although they do have 'some' HD channels - they expected to get ALL HD channels when they had the HD pack - but Nada!)

I pay £55 pm for the "Sky Sports World" package and get their "Everyday" BB for free (suits me).
This is on a Sky+ HD box, of course (I think a tenner of that £55 accounts for the HD service IIRC).
Daylight robbery, lol
My phone is BT line rental at about £37 per 1/4. I'm on free evening & w/e calls with them as well. Which means, together with my mobile's 800 free mins, means I don't hardly ever incure any "call" costs (indeed, the mobile alone covers my monthly usage).
