Trees...

Trees...
I'm looking at a house and the neighbours trees might put me off the sale.
They are the hight of the house and blocking sun light. I know it's petty but I'm thinking if I buy the house I'm ditching the trees this side of the fence.
I will ask the neighbour if he wants his gone / trimmed.
I know with the council you can say a public tree is blocking the light in your garden and they have to trim it back - Just wondering if same applies on private land? - I also know you can trim whats hanging over your side & you need to offer it back... Just hope the neighbour hates them..

You may well find the neighbour hates them and the birds they attract pooing on their cars, i did.
I was so pleased when new people moved in and chopped down a 50ft tree that attracted the birds and dropped its sprigs and sap on our cars all the time, trees are nice and i don't have a problem with the birds but it was a stupid place to plant a tree because of drains and driveways and it's roots lifted the pavement so was a hazard to passersby, and it was only a conifer.

Obviously make sure the trees don't have TPOs on them.
My local council sticks them on weed trees (Sycamore maples). They aren't indigenous to the UK: FFS Even the woodland trust considers them as a weed!
They even TPO'd my neighbours monkey puzzle tree that was poking above the fence in his back garden! (non indigenous which he planted 15 years ago )

Copper nails does not work. Copious amounts of salt or rocksalt does!!
If the tree is TPO'd or you are looking at a house in a conservation area then it is in breach of planning law to do anything the trees even cutting back to the boundary without permission.
The council do not have to cut a tree back just because you say it is blocking light.
There is a procedure where by you can apply to the council to have a neighbours hedge checked if it is affecting light into your property or garden. It is part of the high hedge regulations and will cost you approx £500 to instigate the investigation and unless there is a really serious problem they will find in favour of your neighbour - you lose the £500.
Your best bet is to just ask the potential neighbour

Just wondering where you get rid of the trees you take down .Do you have a use for them or do they end up on the tip with disposal costs ??

All trees are chipped and stored at my yard, Stobarts then collect 27 tonnes at a time in a walking floor artic and it goes to the power stations as biomass. Anything that doesnt chip goes for firewood
