Default Very nearly wrote off my car last night.

I was leaving work turning right onto the A40 from a fairly large road.

Traffic going from right to left was slow (almost stationary).

There was no traffic going from left to right.

A chap in a Luton on my right stops and waves me out. I get about 1/2 way over the road (so I can see round the van) - and there's a police car tonking down the road at about 70 (30 limit) without his sirens on.

With a lot of luck and skill from the ol' bill, he manages to break & swerve round the back of my car narrowly missing me & the guys waiting to turn out of the road where I came from.

Talk about a heart in mouth moment.

The lorry driver shrugs and mouths sorry.

Glad to hear your ok. However never by guided by others (poor) vision, make you own decisions based on what you can see. May have been better to have waited for the van to move. A least you've lived to see any other day and I'm sure you've learnt from this.

Could have been an interesting one if the old bill had hit you. Always is if they get involved in an accident. Lots and Lots of paer work for them even if their fault or not however minor. Years ago a marked police car nudged me in traffic, only damage was a paint chip on the parking sensor on my car. Cost of a paint stick £5 would have covered it. Took over 6 months for the police to sort it, Would have been easier & much simplier to either take £5 out of there petty cash / tea funds than get the insurance and the police insurance / H&S involved but have to follow rules.

Anyway at least your ok and no bent metal and hopefully lesson learnt.

A family member of mine is a police man and wrote off a police car on the way to a call.

Sirens on going though a 40 zone, approaching a big wide junction on the left with no other traffic around and an old cotton head pulls straight out in front of him from the junction without looking.

Paperwork was massive! They even had to find a identical police car and do different runs down the road slamming the brakes on to prove he was going less than 30mph over the speed limit so was within the rules etc etc.

Lights yes, sirens no.

Given he was on the wrong side of the road, I'd have thought he'd have sirens on too.

That would have been a frightener and its easy to see how it can happen. You had to rely on the van driver having seen it was clear and it was probably unwise for the copper to be belting along like he was under the circumstances.

Glad you got away with it.
