A violent burglar who picked on elderly women was sent down for 15 years yesterday, in a rare sentencing that showed a judge’s determination to protect the public.

With the rate cases have been going as of late he'll get a reduced sentance, then it will have a further 50% reduction by the government then he'll get out early for good behaviour. Roughly translates to what? 3 years?

As I see it, he will still get half the sentence reduced because he confessed and if he is of good behaviour he can get a further 1/3 off the remaining sentence.
I think this is ridiculous and irresponsible to be able to get so much of the sentence reduced. It makes a mockery of the Conservative promise to be tough on crime. It is all in an attempt to reduce the costs of keeping a criminal in gaol.
To my mind this is all wrong as far as the correct priorities are concerned. It is a gross dereliction of the State's responsibility to protect the innocent public and all just to save money as well!
