now that's more like it
A violent burglar who picked on elderly women was sent down for 15 years yesterday, in a rare sentencing that showed a judge’s determination to protect the public.

Let's wait for the appeal to see how long he'll actually get before jumping for joy.

With the rate cases have been going as of late he'll get a reduced sentance, then it will have a further 50% reduction by the government then he'll get out early for good behaviour. Roughly translates to what? 3 years?

As I see it, he will still get half the sentence reduced because he confessed and if he is of good behaviour he can get a further 1/3 off the remaining sentence.
I think this is ridiculous and irresponsible to be able to get so much of the sentence reduced. It makes a mockery of the Conservative promise to be tough on crime. It is all in an attempt to reduce the costs of keeping a criminal in gaol. To my mind this is all wrong as far as the correct priorities are concerned. It is a gross dereliction of the State's responsibility to protect the innocent public and all just to save money as well! Les |
