I enjoyed all that, good memories too.
The Canadian pilots used to select wheels up before they started the take off roll. The weight on wheels micro switches woiuld not allow the wheels to travel until the aircraft left the ground and the oleos extended to operate the microswitches. The wheels would then travel up and it looked impressive. Trouble was if you hit a bump along the runway and the weight reduced on the oleos allowing them to travel up before the Sabre had reached flying spped! The result was very similar to the Mig 29 in the video,
It then meant that the pilot would be invited to his boss's office to give him a good listening to

I'm wondering why the bloke in the Catalina pressed on the way he did? It obviously wasn't going to happen. Maybe the stewardess was having a go

Whilst in the University Air squadron I remember reading an accident report on an RAF tornado. Had pre-selected the reversing buckets before landing. Had a less than perfect touchdown, bounced and went to full throttle to go round.....just as the reversing buckets, triggered by the "touchdown", enagaged.
net result - max decelleration whilst still some distance above the runway

Ive lost a brilliant one - let me explain
Chap in the forground talking to camera(wide shot loose on presenter in centre frame, lots ot air above his head), you then see and hear a Spitfire in the background and he has to duck as it is so low travelling at a few 100mph just and it does look just above his head.
The camera angle accentates the lowness but it is still a superb bit of flying and a real brown trousers monent for the presenter, has anyone got it???

A USMC Harrier returned to base last year with multiple impacts to the leading edges of the wings.
Turns out he'd engaged in a bit of ultra-low night time flying, and had impacted several cactii as he flew as low as four feet!!
The slightly more worrying thing was that the pilot had no idea that he'd damaged the aircraft!!

Yes thats a good one and it is similar to when I saw a Vulcan pilot stream the tail brake chute just before touchdown. We all used to do that to get the shortest landing possible since it took 4 seconds to bite.
He got the flare wrong however and he ballooned up and the chute deployed when he was still a good 10-15 feet up. As you say, instant decelleration and it was like dropping the aircraft on the ground from that height and they don't like it!
Never seen a Vulcan so close to the ground with its wheels down when the oleos compressed fully as it hit.

Well that was impressive to say the least! I mean that he managed to miss the blokes watching!
We had a bit of a wild flying instructor who used to push it a bit at times. There was a drain pipe sticking out of the bottom of a Vampire fuselage by a few inches. He did a low level loop in front of our training squadron building at RAF Valley and did not get it quite right because after he landed they found the pipe was jammed up with earth and grass! We found the groove in the grass in front of the building. It impressed the student who was flying with him-he was white as chalk!
