Default Our War: Ten Years In Afghanistan

I thought it was honest, tragic, emotional, thought provoking and a true testament to the committment of the UK Armed Forces.

Then again I am biased.

Just watched it very thought provoking. All the more so as my mum rang me yesterday to say her friend and neighbours grandson was killed on sunday in Afghanistan.

very humbling and powerful.................................can also recommend

http://restrepothemovie.com/

which also makes you sit back and think, hopefully when the new armed forces covenant gets enshrined in law we might get a bit more respect/understanding in light of what is asked of us all.

I am out here at the moment. Rang the wife to ask her to 'tape' the series. Should make for difficult viewing, but will give an insight from another angle.

Baz, I saw restrepo and that was unbelievable. Just shows how 'the other half' live. (I am not in their half, am working Navaids by the way, before anyone asks if I have *****, I have none)

This was a really good programme, it was incredible seeing the frontline from the point of view of the soldiers, completely different to other documentary's I've seen in the past.

Who classes this as an occupation?

There was some spokesman for a muslim 'moderate organisation' on TV the other day - an organisation supposedly involved with preventing radicalisation in the young - and I noticed he was using the same language as the radicals; calling in a 'occupation'.

This is not a political thread but about a TV programme made without spin, politics or an agenda.

It's real life and not what everyone wants to see.

As we say "If the **** fits......................wear it".

Loved the joke about Team Medics thoughts on what Now Zad looked like, gotta love East Anglia.

3 part series on every Tuesday night. Each episode is with a different unit.

I watched this program and have great respect for the people who are out there. It was interesting to here the COs comments about how much they hard learned from that first engagement and how they had improved their techniques.

Trouble is,the Taliban is endemic in that country. The moment the allies moved out, it would regenerate immediately.

The British army could not win the first time we occupied the country, neither could the Russian army who just gave up, so what do people think our chances are nowadays?

No political comments allowed in this thread.

FWIW I semi-agree. We need to ask what is the political objective of what we are trying to do.

We never 'lost' in Afghanistan during the Imperial period BTW just after the 2nd Anglo-Afghan war the idea of having a British presence/residence in Kabul was given up. It just wasn't worth it in the end given the lack or resources and wealth in the country....it was enough to have it contained and subdued leaving the North-West of India secure.

Afghanistan as is now was a bestial place in many ways. Of course now though we don't live in the 19th century, now we have Pakistan and also the rise of International Islamism. Much as changed but also much is the same.
