Default Home insurance advice?

Just got my first Home insurance renewal through and it's too expensive. I've done the whole Confused/Go Compare/Money Supermarket thing and have found som good prices from every company under the sun. Are there any to aviod?
My top five prices come from The Post office, Budget, Swinton, More than and Legal and General.
Any other pointers?

Thanks

As above, liv vic, one of, if not the best out there, they are one of the only insurers to pay matching items costs, which can be very helpful.

Avoid legal and general, tight as a ducks **** with everything.

Im in home insurance business by the way, so lots of experience of both companies.

I used to work for Direct Line in the home insurance retention department(worst job I've ever had! ). Anyhow I'll cut to the chase we used to be able to discount a renewal unto 50% if the conditions were right and you had been a customer for a few years. Now they have an "intelligent tool" that tells you how much discount you can give. What I would say is try and get 25% off by ringing up to cancel, if they only give you 5-10% ring the next day and try for a little more.

Brun - used to work as a team leader in a home/motor insurance claims office.

Of those above, RSA (More Than), are best, but LV cover makes them a good bet as above. Avoid anyone you've never heard of!
