Angry Internet borders

It really annoys me that media companies still haven't grasped the fact that in today's modern connected world we are global. Why do they feel they must still control content geographically?

When Fox/CBS/etc release their next blockbuster mini series they will do so in the USA only which inevitably leads to the rest of the world seeking pirate versions in order to watch it. If they were smart they could release this globally on an easy to view platform and at the same time leveraging advertising revenue from it.

This is the worst case I have ever seen of country restricted content, a friend sent me a link of New Zealand... I am UNABLE to read the f-ing article because I am in the UK. Who is this media giant preventing UK citizens from reading the article? th F-ING BBC!!!!

Seeing that the internet was invented to share information, it kind of goes against the whole ethos of its intention.

But these bunch aren't the only ones.

Obviously Fox block their stuff to the UK because SKy will get all uppity about it when trying to find and excuse for their poor viewing numbers on SKy1 etc.

I'm never going to read anything you write ever again.

You just used the word 'leveraging' in a thread without joking.

This is a terrible, terrible day for SN.

Far from it, I just think that media should be available globally not per region. Even more so when our very own BBC block their articles from UK readers.

Yes I see your point of course and I agree.

World government would be an abomination.
