Bravo2Zeros thread has reminded me of something that happened to a friend about 20 years ago, didnt want to use his thread so heres a new one!
Date, about 1984, a friend of mine wanted a BMW 3 series - a 320i in particular. After weeks of looking he spotted a scribbled hand written card in the village shop window - it read, simply, 'BMW 320i, 1982/X reg., red, 10,000miles, immaculate, surplus to requirements, £300'
Of course this was an error, but he rang and went to see the car, the price was surely around £3000 and the lady who he saw had missed off a '0'
He drove the car, loved it and offered her £2750 - hoping she would say yes. She enquired why he would want to pay more than the £300 she was asking - he explained that he thought it an error and the real price was £3000??
She simply explained that the car was her husbands, he had run away to Spain with the Au-Pair and had given her instructions to advertise the car, sell it and send him the money (he had even written a letter to his solicitor transferring title to her, so she could legally sell it!) - it was his pride and joy, she has NO idea whatsoever as to the value of cars and therefore has advertised it and achieved the FULL asking price!!
My friend bought the car and lived off the story for years - the car went on for 12 years and he sold it for £300 I seem to remember!!
Nice Friday story for you??
Pete
