Thumbs down Just wtnesses a guy bin his GTR!!!

I work in a port and coming to the end of my shift.

I had mentioned to my colleague (a non-petrol head) about what a magnificent car they are (and how I would gladly donate a kidney to own one) as it roared past.

Long story short, jumped in the car with said colleague to travel back to our hotel and (with a spirited run lol) ended up a couple of cars behind this GTR.

Now I am sure he was too busy admiring my car in his rear view mirror to notice the container lorry in front brake sharply and bin it straight into the back!

Only travelling about 30-40mph but he managed to destroy it. An expensive trip to France methinks..........................

It would be a 'lottery car' for me, but I have to say it was odd having said what an amazing car it was to my colleague only 15mins beforehand lol

I think you can pick one up now for around the 40k mark now but still out of the realm of possibility for me

Agreed, although on this occasion I think his concentration was more at fault than his ability

I also believe that paddle shift cars encourage Drivers to drive faster and more recklessly....write cheques their talent can't cash etc.

Not just paddle shift cars, I've always believed there is a time and place for 'spirited' driving. I must add that this fella was not driving recklessly as far as I saw, carelessly perhaps lol

Thing about a manual especially on a performance car is that up-shifting or downshifting is a fairly visceral/physical thing to do....it takes more commitement and 'feel' than just pushing a paddle and pushing a throttle-by-wire pedal to the carpet.

So the way I see it is that it is a kind of small barrier to driving like an idiot and going way to fast.

I could not believe it when the car in question has just passed through our border control and fortunately I had my camera/phone this time!

The car looked worse off than I thought and the driver of the recovery truck confirmed he did rear end it into a lorry! Every airbag inside had activated and the car is now heading toward motor heaven

At work at the mo but will upload the pics tonight!

That pedestrian safety thingy is the worst thing to go off. Costs a mint to fix and causes loads of damage.

More largely erroneous hear say

It isn't the best thing in the world, new hinges, actuators and an IP controller which is about £2-2.5k, then new bumper and bonnet if needed. The sum total of which is circa 50% of the 11k figure that spread through the net like wildfire. Don't believe the hype tony

You would be the man to confirm, I remember reading an article in a Jap car mag a while back about the true cost of GTR ownership. It said the cost of replacement headlights was £1300 or something similar?

That is not GTR only, I remeber headlights for my EVO9 were circa £900...

True cost of GTR ownership is higher than what you would pay on an equivalent 50-60k motor, but no where near the misguided suggestions you can read about online

You are right it does cost a fair few quid to fix! Everything on a GTR does. There are some wild stories on the net about the cost of ownership but it is stupidly expensive but comparable with any other supercar except that they cost twice as much to buy in the first place so you could say its a bargain lol

Repair bills r crazy hence insurance costs arent cheap (except for Admiral but they will most likely get their fingers burnt and raise premiums soon).

Have you had to replace it yet? Just wondered how you could be sure of the cost if you haven't?
