I wonder what the possibilities are for getting rid of such a system, as these cars get older I cant imagine poeple will be wanting to get it replaced for a low speed impact, ok its not as expensive as the 11 grand that went round but its still the price of a decent second hand car for most people, ok its the price to play in that league but I cant imagine the guys that have ten or 15 year old Skylines now (TDW ?) paying all that or wanting to lose their NCB for it.

From GTROC:
http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/127250-ac...hat-i-did.html
The GT-R has been designed to meet the latest legal and safety standards for all new cars. This innovative pop up bonnet system is required as there is insufficient clearance between the bonnet and the top of the engine to comply with the European directive 70/156/ EEC as amended by 2003/ 102/ EC for pedestrian safety.
When the accident happened i called my dealer and asked them to collect the car and told them i would just pay for it without putting it through my insurance.
Then i found out the total cost of the repairs.
Eleven Thousand Pounds.

Easy ladies, here are the pics as promised!
As you can see, he's done a number on it
On a sidenote, I picked up a little souvenir today! On the way back from work today I drove past the 'crash site' and saw what was left of the bumper on the side of the road. I whipped out the LeatherMan sharpish in true pikey style and had the grill badge away.................................the closest I will ever get to owning one

My colleague said to me
"I wouldn't fancy the repair bill for that!"
When I finished choking on my tea, I replied whilst laughing
"REPAIR BILL! You must be joking?!"
(Besides, I have his grill badge now!)
