Syria
So here we go again. Syria is at exactly the same point Libya was a few months ago. The regime there is gunning down its own citizens and Ca -moron and Slaphead are leading calls for it to stop.
So I expect a UN resolution with the UK leading any military action resulting from it as we are the loudest voice just like we were about Libya and the ME experts on here seems to tell us that is the reason we are in Libya.
Only NO!!! Apparently we can't afford it according to Dave! But surely we have a humanitarian duty? Well it seems not after all. Just as I suspected
So therefore I assume Syria either has no oil, we don't need it or we have another way of getting it
Libya? Humanitarian reasons? Yeah right!

Interesting point of view, straight from the conspiracy files
If Syria happened before Libya do you not think we would be saying we cannot afford military action against Libya after all, who would have predicted the outcomes of both Tunisia and Egypt at the start of the year, or the Ivory Coast at Christmas.
And lets be honest, if the government didn't intervene were oil was concerned, what do you think would happen to the petrol prices that you moan about already being to high

Many Western Countries had there revolutions/Civil wars two to three hundred years ago !...and it's only in the past 60 yrs we have seen the longest period of peace the west has ever known !
These oppressed middle eastern countries are well overdue their peoples fight for Democracy.....Let them have it and by all means we should assist them to achieve that goal...BUT we must understand that bloodshed is an unfortunate consequence of overthrowing a barbaric regime !
ps OIL !!...yes, it is very very important, to all of us !...Unfortunately!

F1, I strongly suggest you give up your car and any other oil based products/items in protest and see literally how far you get!
So many loud voices complain ''its all about the oil" still happily go about their daily lives which includes driving cars and buying and consuming oil/petroleum based products.

The point I am making is fairly simple.
When Lybia kicked off we were told by our politicians that we had a humanitarian duty to intervene and that arguments like we couldn't afford it didn't matter.
Now Syria is in exactly the same situation and the very same politicians who said that are saying in the case of Syria we can't afford it.
So I am interested in the difference betwene the two situations as obviously the humanitarian argument is tosh as they have just proved.
And here thanks to DCI is the difference maybe.

Libya is small fry compared to Syria. Very unlikely that UN would agree a Resolution on Syria aside from some token mutterings about sanctions. In ME terms Syria is one of the big boys with friends in the Arab world, not least Iran. And of course Israel would get involved. No way does the West have the resource to take on Syria. Of course there are humanitarian reasons why we should do something, same as there are in many places, but it just won't happen. dl
