That's a key point people have forgotten here. Still, jail time even for stealing it first still seems a bit harsh compared to what people usually get away with.

Yes there is lots of angry people in Carlisle over this story as he was an x soldier from the city
There is not many asians and Muslims in Carlisle compared to other cities in the uk and yes you can't go around setting off fires in the main street but the judge was sending out a strong message to people on Cumbria on racial offences

But the poppy burners chanting was really disgraceful and upset everyone in the uk and they got away with a £50 fine

Mmm

Can he not appeal it on those grounds?

But those of us who know, have long suspected the "one rule for them........" justice of Bliar's Britain.

Time a few judges were targetted methinks

The problem we have is we all complain about this to each other and on the likes of here but that's all we do. We need to take a stand for what's right and get our feelings heard. There are to many PC correct people in this country that sticks up for them and not there own people. Until we all do something this will never change and it will only get worse.

Not sure the tariff is so important as is the fairness and equality on the punishments!

Burning the Koran and Poppys are equally heinous crimes imho

I think if it gets worse something will happen. People are beginning to have enough and if this country gets any more one sided in playing Daddy in protecting this poor defenceless religion it is soon going to realise that it is being played big time...and laughed at by every one outside of passport control...and then inside when they've all got passed.

There's a guy working for me who's a Baptist Christian, smashing fella, but believes the world has been around for 6000 years, Darwin was one of Satan's tricks....you get the picture.

Anyway, we're considering standing in Trefalgar square and burning two books. I, as a committed atheist, will be burning Origin of Species and he the KJV Bible. What would they do us for? Arson? It would be interesting to see the reaction from the World's Darwinists and Christians......murder, mass protests, civil unrest, death threats.....or perhaps simply a knowing smile?

If I respond to the first paragraph I think we both know what that will lead to, so I won't.

As to the burning of the KJV its a Bible rather than the Bible. Gods word doesn't suddenly go up in flames, bits of paper do.
If he burnt my Bible he can buy me another one.
The end.

Most Christians will continue with their own beliefs and not keep shouting at you about yours since they believe that we are all entitled to our own beliefs without having to put up with unpleasant insults about them.

If you want to make an **** of yourself by burning books in public, just go ahead. You won't prove anything worthwhile anyway.

The problem is the burning of the Koran is not seen as burning a book but more of a racist attack against them by others.

Burning of poppys that we use to remember the people who fought for this country years ago doesnt seam to matter a great deal from what I can see.

It wont be long till they can get away with murder as WE wouldnt want to upset them in any way

You're confusing religion with race. Both acts were as bad as each other. The burning of poppies should have been met with swift and apt punishment, not a slap on the hand.
The namby pamby attitude does need dispensing with I fully agree.

At a risk of going off thread, here's my 2 penny worth to TurboAndy's comments.

The poppy is a symbol of rememberence that has its origins in WW1. It is used to emphasise the wearers support and rememberence for ALL war dead, both past and present. Nowadays it is also used in the same way that wristbands for various charities used to highlight their cause. As an-ex soldier I wear my poppy with pride and find this kind of act absolutlyfeckingdisgusting. Then I remind myself that it is only because of the ultimate sacrifice made by our armed forces, both in the past and no doubt for many years to come, that allows these scum the freedom to carry out these acts in the first place.

Rant over, soapbox back in the cupboard.

I couldn't agree more with you. That is what winds me up so much the these scum bags can burn the poppys and all they get us a £60 find.
