Question Buying car insurance on the internet.....what if..............

...............you put in your correct registration mark, but it comes up with the wrong description of your car? For example, it finds an Impreza Sport instead of the UK Turbo?

Whose problem is it?

Reason I ask is that the lad has just been doing his and it came up with a Renault Clio Sport 138Ps, instead of the 197 sport it is. He's rang up and sorted it, but what if it were someone who didn't know WHAT the numbers meant and just went ahead? Whose fault is that, if you put in a genuine number and their system ***** up?

If you knowingly insure it as the wrong car you're liable and your insurance will be invalid.

Well, in this case, he has.

But what about some young lass whose car comes up with a jumble of letters and numbers and all SHE knows is that it's a Saxo. What if it gives HER the wrong one? Surely that's not HER fault?

It is your responsibility to ensure YOUR details are correct at all times.....end of mate; may seems a little one sided but such is life....if you buy a car you should know what your buying, at worst these things are on the log bog.

The query has already been answered but a huge amount of people are ignorant to the fact that it is down to them to make sure their cars are insured correctly. I dread to think how many people are driving around with potentially invalid insurance.

Never rely on just the registration number, we see many cases with UK cars which are registered incorrectly and even more so when dealing with import insurance, as an example, a customer could give us a registration number from his import Mazda MX5, when we input the registration number it could bring up a Toyota RAV4.

Ignorance is not bliss, check your documents, make sure your car is covered.

I had this with a motor of mine - turned out that the dealer had put the wrong plate on it when I bought it - so had accidentally been driving round with the wrong plates on for 12 months.

If they are that ignorant they should not have a driving licence!

I'd imagine there's a few on here that knowingly do this. Over the years I've seen many adverts for import wrx's where the sellers state 'cheap insurance, coz it says GL on logbook'
