driving barefoot?
Does anyone know the score on whether this is legal or not? As its getting warmer. I'm increasingly tempted by my flip flops but I know driving in them is a recipe for disaster as a few years back a friend was rear ended by a girl wearing them.
Does anyone know the legality behind chucking them in the passenger footwell when your behind the wheel?
Astraboy.

I tried it once, I'm to tall to drive in heels, and on one occasion didn't have my pumps in the car.
I took all the skin off the top of my right foot! It bloody killed, and look horrible.
As for if it is legal or not....? I'm not sure, but it's not sensible.

I got pulled once when I was driving barefoot. The cop claimed he "could" have done me for not being in full control of the vehicle (or something like that) but he didn't. Personally I doubt it would stand as, while it was a once of, I had far greater sensation and pedal control barefoot than with trainers. I'd argue that when used to it, drivers of modern cars are likely to have improved throttle and brake control than when they are wearing big trainers.

Driving bare foot is so uncomfortable and you have miles less control and it just feels wrong. If it is not already illegal it should be made illegal, aswell as driving in flip flops or high heals. Driving should be done in fairly solid flat soled shoes only. Anything else should warrent the death penalty.

So it is that warm in England that you can't just be normal and drive with shoes on?

I think it depends if you have soft feet or not, in that if your used to not wearing shoes then it's not a problem.
At a guess the people saying no probably are always to be found in some sort of foot wear and have soft sensitive feet.
I take my shoes and socks of at the earliest opportunity as i like my feet to be uncovered and always drive bare foot in summer on all but the shortest of journeys.
You should go somewhere like jamaica and see the kids running around barefoot playing foot ball.
my fathers feet were like leather.

There's no legislation about what you can or cannot wear whilst driving, but in the event of a serious accident, such things may be taken into consideration if charges of due care or dangerous driving are being levelled. I often drive barefoot when it's really warm, it's great with the air-con blowing on your feet. Sandals are OK, but your feet soon start to stink without socks, and socks'n'sandals is a fashion If they were to legislate such things then heals, platforms, flip-flops and all manner of footwear could be deemed unsuitable.
