Question This would make the AV vote more interesting?

If on the ballot paper you could give one candidate a negative vote. So when the "preferences" were all added up the negatives were deducted from the candidate.

So when the winners were declared it would give a clearer idea of who really wasn't wanted.

?

The combination of making voting compulsory and no postal voting could be a bit tough if everyone has to vote on the same day. Would be a very thin week for the travel industry.

So tell me please. In the "old days" when a typical constituency had 3 candidates say, Tory, Labour and Liberal. Tory folk would vote Tory and not dream of voting Labour and probably tick Liberal as second choice as they weren't nearly as bad as Labour and, anyway, didn't stand a chance of winning (or so they imagined). Similarly Labour voters who might also back Liberals as a second choice but never vote Tory.

This would mean that Liberals would storm home to victory when no one really wanted them?

Not an unusual scenario?
