Good grief, there are no football threads!

Four games on the telly last night, and not one thread mentioning them.
P.S. I thought the England result flattered an average team, sorry TWO average teams

I agree, just a shame he wasn't that sharp last week.
Some good promising performances by Dyer, Cole and Vassell (blimey, he has got to be as quick as Owen), but I do think that if Paraguay's defence had turned up they would not have looked quite as good.
Although it must have done their confidence a power of good to come out with a result like that without Beckham.

Agree with you there CrisP. Vassel looked even better than he did against the Dutch. Cole was much better than usual and put in a great performance, quality of opponants helped his style, but even so, he did well. Dyer was OK, England seemed to stick with what they know a bit, and most play went through Gerrard (also brill) in the first half. Dyer didn't really get in to it, but Sven already knows all about Dyers ability. As I consider Dyer to be the one true God, I'd hoped he perform better.
On the whole we played quite well, passing was sharp, swift and pacey, and we broke quickly. Paraguay defended poorly and you wonder how they did so well against Argentina and Brazil in qualifying.
Anyway it was a nice send off, and proved we only miss Beckham when we're playing poor and need him to drag us thru games.

Vassel was by far the most promising - he wanted to run forward and make chances and that inspired the team to do likewise instead of looking for the easy pass back etc. Made our football flow a little better.

On a lighter note, after the game last night Stan Collymore was hosting a 'phone-in on 5 Live :
Caller, "Sven should be taking you to the World cup Stan"
Stan, "Oh yeah, why's that then?"
Caller, "Cos you're the only one who can beat the Swedes"
Caller cut off pronto!!!
