Default American style fridge freezer.

Need to replace my Samsung which doesn,t get a good review as regards reliability, although mine lasted 5 years. Any suggestions? Steve.

You're right, they are expensive, but too small surely?

Never seen a big/American style one.

Just bought a Panasonic http://intelligent-living.panasonic....s/nr-b53v1.php

Most energy efficient American Style fridge/freezer you can buy.

They've only just started selling domestic goods in Europe but apparently we'll respected in Asia so taking a bit of a risk as there aren't any historical reviews (unlike those for Samsungs which completely put me off!)

Pleased with it so far

We are about to buy a Panasonic as well. Bit nervy as their washing machines don't get great reviews for reliability. We figure less moving parts in a fridge.

You'd be surpised at the amount of parts there are to go wrong in a modern frost-free fridge freezer;

Evaporator fan(s)
Condensor fan
Motorised damper/airflow flaps
Defrost heating elements
Compressor (sometimes two)
Starter/run unit for the compressor
Starting capacitor
Thermocouples/thermistors
Control panel
Control circuits

etc.

Thing is Panansonic do make pretty good air conditioners, so the fridges/freezers should be ok as they share similar technology.
