Default Red Wine, does it go out of date?

As we are moving, we've found 2 bottles of red wine hidden away, one is from 99 and the other is 2002 are these remotely drinkable?

Reason I ask is they don't have a best by lol

What sort of a ridiculous question is that? It's never in our house long enough!

Uncorked? Not long at all.

Closed, it can be laid down and stored for years. We opened a 1990 Chateaneuf du Pape on Christmas day and it was like nectar.

Just open it, if it tastes of vinegar then it's off, if it tastes of wine drink and enjoy. Even if it's off tasting it won't harm you, just wouldn't drink it all.

If it has been laid on its side to keep the inside part of the cork wet and airtight it should be alright.

If the air has been able to get into the bottle it will eventually oxidise into vinegar.

We opened a bottle of 1964 Ferreira port on Xmas day and that too was nectar. Worth about £500 and was left to us three sons by my father.

As soon as you open it you will be able to tell if it has 'gone off'.

Whether it is a good wine to drink at that age really depends on the wine.

The best clarets typically take 10-15 years to start getting to their peak.

Is it true that white wine won't keep, and if so why not? Someone must know.
