had an email froma chap whos been left a watch and he wants to deal with me against a car, pics are on the way but all i have at the mo is:

18k gold, nice watch but not really for me! Comes with a rolex certificate rolex warranty cardand intruction manual,+has a roxlexs swiss tag with it. I have bean told its worth around the £3000 mark form many jewlers

ive asked for numbers and the reply was
hi mate the only numbers i can find are F714983 OR CL5 72200 if any good to you, Adrian

whilst i have a slight gut instinct it could be fake etc you never know so i need to look into it more in depth, done a little googling nothing conclusive

any opinions?

ask him to sell it then bring the money to you or you both meet at a Rolex stockist and pay for a valuation (and authenticity check) otherwise walk away unless you really know your watches!

A jeweller won't charge you to tell you if its a fake or not, I was looking at some 2nd hand Rolexs a few weeks back and a bi gold datejust with a normal face was around the £3k so there is no way they would actually pay someone that much.

The basic silver Rolex is around £3k new so a gold one or bi gold one would be about £5k.

Get him to sell it and bring cash - it is that simple if you do not want or need the watch - its actual worth is its real world resale value, a jeweller will tell you how much they would pay for it and also how much they would expect sell it on for, somewhere in the middle lies its value.

I'm no watch expert so take it to a sepcialist. However for a gold watch I'd expect the numerals to be stones. Try posting on PH, there are some knowledgeable folk there.

Edited to say - your fake link tells a story

Just go for it. A Man wants to pay for a car with a watch. What could ever go wrong with that?

Don't be a dumbass, walk away.
