Exclamation CLIFFORD BLACKJAX G-5...?!?!

Anyone got one of these fitted:-

CLIFFORD Blackjax G-5 Car Anti-Hijack Alarm System NEW

I'm not too bothered about having an all singing all dancing alarm system like the Clifford 650, etc. but do like the idea of the anti-hijack facility on its own (after all, if someone really WANTS your motor, they'll damn well take it!).

Do these G-5 units work well. I'm worried that they might play up, thus leaving you embarrassingly stranded with all sirens blaring and lights flashing lol

Any opinions, info, experiences, etc, gratefully received...

P.S. I also currently have a Cobra CAT2 immob. fitted - would it still function okay even if the G-5 was also fitted? ... Or would the Cobra have to be removed so as not to interfere with the G-5...?

I have it with the standard Subaru imobiliser, seems to work fine, you get caught out from time to time when you forget to enter the code But its very reasuring when you see how well it works.

Blackjax is brilliant.

The defence against having your car stolen with the keys. Or helps no end anyway.
Personally I would go for a full G5 set up and not mix and match devices.

Always use the blackjax, never malfunctioned for me. 3 cars, 2 G4 alarms and 1 G5.

I had it on a car. Turned it off though. Kept getting out at garages/shops/on the drive because i'd forgotten something and the mrs was still in the car with the radio on etc... 200yards down road and '*****'.

Works well though!

5t.

Iv got it on mine, great bit of kit but pain in the **** to keep punching in the morse code style code every time someone opens the door

Much better was the Cobra Anti Hijack I had installed by Litchfield in my Spec C, that had a hidden micro switch in the car. Just had to press twice to turn off the anti hi jack. The Clifford G5 valet switch system to enter your pin is complete stupidity IMO.

Cheers peeps - much appreciated.

I just read the Owner's Guide and it has its own (optional) built-in 2-circuit immobiliser too, anyway! So no need for the Cobra anyhow.

Typically, the PIN that I like to use contains lots of 'highish' digits, so starting will be a labourious process and a pain in the ***!

Prob not such a good idea to have mentioned that! ^^^

But at least that would stall a potential thief even more...

So to invoke "Valet mode", turn on ignition, enter PIN, then press and hold in the "blank" button for 4 secs until the blue LED comes on and stays on? Is that right?

My opinion of Blackjaxx: PAIN IN THE ****.

Sorry, but it is. Its like marmite...some love it, but some hate it. And just pull the connector off the brake light switch and its disabled anyway.

Toad Ai606 interactive with text alert and remote disable is my preference

Ali, re the Toad... So when the you get a text to say the system's been activated (by unauthorised entry), you can "reply" (or send a text) to remotely shut down the engine?!

I had blackjax fitted in my scooby when I had it, I loved the system and what it offered but like others have said it does become a pain especially on short trips if people are getting in and out lol.

However that said I would rather have it than not and a little inconvenience outweighs the pain of entering the code.

All about personal choice.

^^ this^^

Ali Bongo speaks the truth. Blackjaxx is a ridiculous product. Lots of faffing around that makes driving the car a pain not a pleasure. Factor in the cost and the chance (0.001%) of being hijacked it is just plain stupid..

Yes, so long as there is credit for it to send you a text, and the installer has wired it to cut the engine fueling/igniton circuits.

Credit? Are you talking about PAYG mobiles... Or do you mean that you have a subscription contract with Toad to have that feature enabled/to use it?

The Toad text alert thingy has an Orange PAYG sim inside. So needs credit for it to send texts.

There is a subscription service that can allow it to be used for vehicle tracking, but thats just an option.

Ahh.

Shame they couldn't implement that in such a way that you could register the product with your existing "pay monthly" mobile provider... Much less hassle as you don't have to be on the ball all the time re. low credit. It'd be just typical that the one time car get's stolen, you've got jack **** credit on the SIM!!

Yeah that my main concern with it. Especially when phone service provider's credit expires after a set period on non-use. (6 months? )

It doesn't say how long the credit lasts on the Toad...but I guess thats more down to Orange.
