Not Again!!
Why does it ALWAYS happen to me?!
No wonder I'm an expert in consumer law!!
I must admit to loving it when something like this happens - in some perverse way I get a kick out of it
Brief outline:-
Been looking for a new Kingsize bed for a while.
Found one in a Department Store I have used before, Reduced in their sale and then reduced again. Didn't buy straight away as I wanted to do some research on it first.
Research showed it to be an excellent price and very well regarded, so - I ring the department store and buy one over the phone. I state that I want a brand new one, not the display bed, they said they had one in stock and I would have that one [you know what's coming don't you!?].
Delivery was for yesterday, 1st Feb., so I rang them on Monday 31st Jan. to ask if delivery will be in the morning or afternoon .... he goes away to ask.
Warehouse manager rings me back a few hours later - they have searched and haven't got one in stock! Computer says NO .... would I like the Display Bed?
Now, I had taken our old bed down to the tip - so, needed SOMETHING! Which is what I told him. If I take the display bed they will knock another £50 Off - I asked what condition it was in - not bad he said just a few scuff marks from peoples toes and shoes on the base.
I agreed to the display bed - subject to my [and the wifes] inspection. He agreed and added that, even if we didn't want to keep that one, he could leave it with us and order a new one for us as the original price agreed. Excellent service - so I agreed that's what would happen.
Yesterday, the bed arrived as promised. The headboard end of the base arrived in the bedroom first and was unwrapped ... few scuff marks, nothing bad, just as I pictured it in my minds eye - great I thought, jobs a good 'un! ............ then the lower section of the base was unwrapped and, well, this was a lot worse - badly scuffed, grubby, stained in one area, a lot worse than I had been led to believe! Our old bed base, sitting in the Council tip was in better condition!!!!!
I told the delivery guys to take note of it - they said they would leave it as agreed - but, would ring their boss and tell him that it was pretty bad.
I signed the delivery note 'Damaged' ..............
Now what!? I have a bed which we are using, they cannot sell it on, this may get interesting ..... just thought I would prepare you for a possible marathon thread in the making

You sort of answered your own question Now what!? I have a bed which we are using they cannot sell it on, this may get interesting ..... just thought I would prepare you for a possible marathon thread in the making
'they' made a further reduction for it being in a 'used' condition, end of!
You made your bed, you go lie in it

You couldn't make this stuff up............oh hang on he has
Do you honestly expect us to believe that you are stupid enough to take your previous bed down the tip before taking delivery of a new one

Even though you signed as "damaged" you had discussion over the condition of the bed.
I see your position with no bed but I'm not sure I'd have even accepted it - now you have it I can't see them maknig too much effort to get the new one. Do you even know if they can get a new one? Might have been last of the line hence the discount?

I have paid the full price already - and am happy to pay the full price ..... I will give up the £50 to have a brand new one!
I'm awaiting their return call back .... see where they stand. We will have the bed 10 years, the £50 offered (not accepted or received as yet) = £5 a year or 10p a week!!
Now, if they want to compensate me by 20p a week for the next 10 years - then we may have an agreed outcome.

They required a clear space to put the bed up in ... so the old bed went to the tip - seems reasonable?
A bed was going to arrive - whether I accepted it or not was neither here or there ....

Beds, once used, are worthless to the retailer. If you'd refused it you might have a chance, as it is you're at the manager's whim. Any whiff of a compromise and you should bite his arm off, assuming it's a true story of course...

Do you not have a garage, shed or spare room where you could temporarily put it Always assumed you'd have quite a big house but I guess not

Well ... after all the Pillow Talk ... they are being extra Customer focused ... who contacted them and told them who they were dealing with?
Amazing service I have to say - I keep the bed, lie in it - they order a brand new one - they send me £50 for the hassle I have had - they deliver new bed in 4 weeks and remove old one ..........
Absolutely as it should be - fantastic customer service - I'll shop there again that's for sure!!
