just recived a letter frm department for wok and pensions saying that i owe money to them from the year 2000 the sum of £19 i dont know anything about this money can thay do this 10 years on

yes -- basically correct, althoug the debt is still owed, they just can't pursue it thru the courts

it is covered by the statute of limitations act

your problem comes if they mark it on your credit file with the credit reference agencies

That's very odd - they never usually pursue money beyond 6 years unless a criminal case. I'd ring to check as I would have thought tat amount and time period would fall under their deminimus amount
