As a bit of a horror film fan I was interested to see this had been remade. The original was one of the accepted 'video nasties' of its time being banned in most countries at one time or another due to its (for the time) graphic content, but mainly for the fact its sole purpose was to shock.
The trouble is the film makers are simply remaking films like this and Last House on the Left, but are not adding anything new or clever. The original Saw worked as it had a plot as well as some truly gruesome moments. These don't, they are just focusing on gore and graphic imagery and nothing more.
While the orginals' place in horror film history is assured due to the time and context in which they were made and released these remakes will not be remembered for anything more than their titles being those of classic horror film folkore.

Totally agree. In my younger years,I used to watch and collect the pre vra nasties and other stuff. Most of it was rubbish and tame by today's standards.
Why a filmmaker would try and remake these films is beyond me,as you can't really add any twist to the storyline-it is what it is.
A bit of trivia, but the actress in the original I spit, was the great-neice of Buster Keaton(didn't say it was interesting!)
For a proper trip down memory lane, check out 'video nasties-the definitive guide'.its a 3 disc collection of all of the original trailers to all of the nasties-13 hours worth of fun!!!
