Moscow bomb
Very bad news...
http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE70N31020110124
BBC now reporting it may have been detonated at a cafe in the landside area of arrivals - could be 100 killed if that's the case.
Several UK planes had recently landed before the bomb went off.
Plane diverted to Stansted from Abh Dhabi, man arrested.

This link is on the Observer site. There's a quite disturbing and graphic picture on the front page so please don't click if you're sensitive. Sickening to read the comments of those people celebrating the deaths.

One Briton is believed to be amongst the victims.

i wonder how surprised the scummy coward suicide bomber is now, that there are not a hundred virgins, but eternal damnation, and daily torment in the pits of hell. Killing in the name of? No god would put their name to this.

They are NOT suicide bombers. They are murdering b a s tards! The sooner people can call them what they really are the sooner all this religious b*llux gets stripped away and we can deal with them and their ilk properly!

Tell it like it is, Dave, they may not come for you. (The thought police that is, not the Islamists.)

The 160 schoolchildren the Islamists killed in '04 is the highlight of the CV. It seems that the fight against fascism will unite Russia and the West in this century as it did for part of the last.

Would it be at all possible, for once, to keep Islam out of a thread?
Until at least it's proven that religion was involved?
Word is that it was/could be militant groups fighting in the Caucasus with the aim to undermine the idea that Russia's rulers preside over a safe and secure society.

But landside security is minimal at most airports. Lots of people, lots of luggage. Unless you have intelligence, or someone is behaving strangely, it would be possible to carry out this sort of attack at most airports.
If you stop and search everyone a mile away then that would become the target.
It is more newsworthy being an airport rather than a bus staion, because the intent must have been to target foreigners. @specialx the obvious intent is to harm the russian economy by deterring foreign investment.

I don't enough about politically orientated Russia.
There's so many Republics in the north that still aren't fully independant, are rife with poverty, unemployment, disputes over settlements.
I agree that religion - especially Islam - play their part. But that hasn't been proven in this case yet.
But please, don't let this thread go off at the tangent that is usual.

I don't think we'll ever find the truth.
The 'freedom fighters' may have a case in so far as the Russian rulers are still trying to hold onto power in the north, and those that reside in the northern Caucasus are predominately Muslim (although they practice a 'local' form of Islam totally alien to most Arabs) but it is also an area of multi-ethnicity.
But, I believe these terrorist attacks aren't solely carried out by Muslims because of religious beliefs, more at the frustration of Russian hierarchy not letting go.
I may be very wrong.
eta - this explains it well - http://www.opendemocracy.net/democra...ticle_2080.jsp

Ok, do the murdering bast4rds have a case?
@ Zip, thanks for the link. Should the rebels/insurgents/murdering b4stards/I*******s/freedom fighters win their independence, do you know what system of governance say, the Chechens and Dagestanis would wish to employ?

I don't think even they know what they'd employ.
However, they are very unlikely to ever had full independence no matter who or what they bomb, whilst ever Putin is in power.

I thought the piece did a good a job of explaining the complexities of the Northern Caucasus, and highlights the plight of the ordinary people in the region. I'm surprised you'd dismiss this with a gif.
