holiday to Greece which Island would suit me best
I am looking to go to a greek island in June. We are both 27 and are looking for a beautiful island with a little bit of nightlife and nice places to eat. We are also looking for nice beaches and no where like Malia or Kavos etc.
There are some many islands so it makes it hard to choose.
Any Ideas? I have looked at Kefolonia and Santorini both seem nice I was also thinking about Crete.
Thanks

I've only been to Corfu and Kefanlonia, so can't really comment on any others. Would never go back to Corfu, but Kefalonia is lovely, but there is a resort I would avoid, can't think of the name of it. I stayed in Skala which wasn't too developed when I went, but that was 13 years ago, so it's probably changed hugely since then. I too fancied Crete for a family holiday, but plumped for Croatia instead which I hope will be lovely.

Well thats my two choices out of the window I like Kavos but its been years since I have been there. Why not just go to somewhere like Kos I was in Kardamena a few years ago and its nowhere near as busy as say Malia. Look on the travel advisors forums and see what most people say as there are loads of places in Greece to visit which are nice.

I was in Zante last year with the missus, were the same age as yourselves, we stayed in argassi at windmill studios. Highly recommended. The beach ain't great and I wouldn't say the resort was stunning, but it was ideal for couple, nightlife is there if you want it, but if you want a quiet night it's good for that too. Resort is ideally located with most other resorts and the main town a short bus/taxi away. Been to many Greek islands and this is one of our favourites. The shipwreck bay is a must see by the way, as is the turtle trip and waterpark!

Cyprus! Either Limassol or Aya Napa if you want Greek, or you can check out North Cyprus if you want Turkish. Limassol to Paphos has some fantastic history and archeolological sites aswell as night life and beaches. Plus they are well set up for the English tourist who wants paradise but doesn't want to leave England. Aya Napa is abit like Ibiza now so it is up to you.

If you want relatively quiet try Amorgos. Beautiful beaches. Big blue was filmed there.
Kefalonia, Crete, Naxos, Zante are nice too.
Santorini is very beautiful but tends to be more crowded and expensive. In June there shouldn't be many people though.
You won't go wrong whichever you choose as long as you avoid the 2 places you mentioned (Kavos, Malia).
A few pics from Santorini.
On the caldera
Sunset in the sea
On the way to the Caldera
The caldera can be seen in the background
The island used to be round but after a volcanic explosion half of it sank (so what is left is a C shape now) but the volcano is still there to visit and swim on the warm waters around it.

We stayed in Hersonissos in Crete last September and loved it. It's quite lively in the evening with quiet and busy parts and the restaurants down by the harbour provide a great view Stalis has lovely beaches and it's only a very very short bus ride away and the buses over there are airconditioned coaches and they are much better than our buses

Having done Greece quite a few times, I keep going back to Cyprus now.
(normally around Akrotiri and Curium beach - I guess you may know it, Les?)

Went to Kefalonia with the missus and both loved it, very pretty, some nice beaches. We stayed in Lassi next to the capital which had a few restaurants etc and you could also walk to the capital if you wanted a more buzzy night, was only about 20 min walk.
I also really enjoyed Cyprus, stayed in Protaras - just enough away from the infamous Ayia Napa (but taxiable if you must!) and really liked the resort, plenty of bars/restaurants and nice beaches

Santorini is very nice, but small and volcanic. Avoid Skiathos £££! There are some quieter areas in Crete that are very nice. Otherwise northeast or west Corfu could tick the boxes.

I would not go to Santorini.
Very windy in the afternoons. Beaches are limited and dark. Pretty villages for a two day stay, but not a real holiday.
Very few restaurants in the tourist areas seem to cook fresh food - most is reheated frozen slop (irrespective of price range!).
The only upside when I was there was that there was a bunch of people in town to do a bikini photo shoot and they all stayed in our hotel!

+1 for Kos.
Myself and the other half went there in June (age 32 & 29), we stayed just outside of Kos Town (10 minute walk) in a 5 star beach resort. 5 pools, 4 restaurants various bars and a late night disco. Beautiful place and this resort is new and it is fantastic and run really well with very friendly staff and helpful too. It is fairly big but they have golf buggys driving around and if you get a bit lazy you can hop on one free of charge.
You can also go on lots of trips, one of which is to Kardamena. Then you get a ferry to Nisyros where you go visit an active volcano and you actually stand in the crater, apparently one of only two in the world you can do this the other being in Mexico.
So all in all, it was nice and quiet but with Kos town for medium type nightlife or a 40 min taxi for a bit more of clubbing type night but still short of the 18-30's type places.
any more info just ask

Skopelos is really nice,we stopped at Limnonari and the beach was lovely. Nightlife is quiet on the island really.
I also liked Skiathos,we stopped in Kanapitsa and its was nice.Beaches were great and classy taverna's on the seafront were great.
Also Tsilivi in Zante was a good mix of nice beach and decent nightlife. We stopped in the Errietta apartments on the top of Akrotiri. Beautiful place and setting. If i could get there again soon,i would.

Yea mate herssonisos is great. I'm going to stalis this year think it's on the outskirts of herssonisos. There both not far from malia actually. Google search the star beach resort in herssonisos, we never stayed there but it's free to get in all sorts to do like waterpark, gokarts, all types of watersports, massage/spa for the misssus, got too recommend doing the bungee too, great craic

Kefalonia is great but don't stay in the south - Fiskardo in the North for beach restaurants and classy nightlife (not club 18-30 or whatever) or Assos just down the coast for soemwehre beautiful and quiet but still only a 15 min drive to Fiskardo. hire a car as well.
Lefkada is nice too with good sandy beaches on the west coast.
