Bloomin ebay, need a cheap parcel service to China
Bought a specialist replacement motherboard for a computer, supposedly brand new. Only to find on delivery that not only is the board unstable, its also not new due to some small damage on the Northbridge heatsink.
Supplier wants me to return the board to him in China. Shipping cost will be £30!!!
How is it that they can ship to me for £5, yet to ship back to them costs a bloomin fortune. The motherboard was barely worth the shipping costs
Anyone know a cheap way to send the parcel back?

It can't be that heavy so just use Royal Mail "Small Packet" air service. Lots of bubble wrap + decent jiffy. 500g for £6.87 + insurance extra if you want (but claiming is a nightmare). Weights and prices on their website.

Aha, now that is a good plan DL. I will look into that, as there should be a cheap way to return it. If they can ship cheaply I would hope the there is the same option for me.
And yes, sometimes in these cases you are screwed when you buy from China. But this is a specialist mobo that has a weird collection of ports, hence I had to buy from the only place I could get it They may prove to be a legitimate source yet

I think you can get a "signed for" service. Not 100% certain about this though. But insurance should cover you if package not received. Proof of posting gives you £41 and more cover costs. dl

I understand your position, but I honestly don't think it's worth sending unless you can be sure of safe delivery.
Seems like throwing good money after bad.
Best of luck whatever you do mate

not uk = no
international signed for does not always work, sometimes Royal Mail will just show that the parcel has left the UK, you will then need to enter the tracking number in to the china equivalent of Royal mail to track it which does not always work...
post from China is chip as chips, but Royal mail is quoite expensive going back in the other direction.

Managed to send it small parcel surface mail for £6.50. That is a lot better than the other options. Will just have to see how it ends up. I got proof of postage, so fingers crossed I get something back.
Total pain when these things happen

Well, it won't be fast
Seems madness that he managed to ship via express delivery for about £5, when the best I can do for similar money is on a ship. One company even quoted me £175 to ship it to China....
Its not as if the planes that he used to ship it to me do not make a return flight, you would think that we could put stuff on them for a reasonable sum of money

I have never had much luck with things from China, it's always poorly packaged, and if it's fragile, 9/10 it's usually broken when it gets here!
It's true, they post it on the cheap and they know you won't bother posting it back, especially as the items you can buy over there are cheaper than what we pay just on the postage.
The only thing I buy from china now is memory for cameras and batteries as it's dirt cheap, oh and baby clothes.
Anything more expensive than £20 and I wouldn't bother.

Two things I have been buying from there for years without a problem, given that they have only been for toys, so they don't need much power, but they are still better value than the cheap crap in the supermarkets.
I bought a fishtank heater on eBay coming from china, it was shattered when it got here, not a suprise as it was wrapped in a shred of bubble wrap in a jiffy bag.

Anything other than a cheap iphone case and I won't bother. Been stung before, they send wrong item or it doesn't work. Total PIA to send it back with any proof/insurance so you just don't bother.
Good luck to you fella.

that really depends on if they sent it with EMS tracking post or not, if it was tracked/signed for paypal will ask you to return it by a tracked service and enter the tracking number in to paypal before you get your money.
