Default Snow Clearing

So, the Army are called out again to help the councils and government because they did not get right. Admittedly the conditions are a bit extreme but............

Why can't people on community service do snow clearing?

Discuss.

Was just thinking the other day clearing snow would be the ideal job for a chain gang.....

Why can't everybody take a bit of responsibility and do their own snow clearing? Why wait for someone else to do it?

Fair play; Its not hard to keep a shovel and tow rope in the car. I do (never needed them though).

Over here it is law that you clear the snow from any public walkway round your property, if you don't and someone slips you can be sued for any medical costs.

Probably it's because they'd have to do a bit of hard work. And 99% of people on community service don't `do` work.

Personally, I'd have prisoners doing all sorts, all year round in Chain gangs. As it is they just sit in their cells playing on their Xbox or watching Dvd's.

I heard that they are. There are many prisoners that you wouldn't want to arm with a shovel Imagine the uproar if parked cars were damaged by the snow clearing team!

Edinburgh council has had community service offenders out clearing city centre pavements for the last week. They are however doing a crap job of it and I have only seen 1 squad actually in operation !

All the prisoners have probably been sent home early due to the weather any way.

Wurzel. I agree, I do my bit. Must be having lived in the Fatherland for too long!

Last winter when shops had sold out of salt/grit I asked the council if I could collect a couple of bucketfuls from their depot to sling around outside a couple of elderly neighbours' houses - not a chance

Most of the shops in our town/village can't be arsed to clear in front of their own front access. Miserable b,astards. dl

This suing mentality has simply gone well over the top. We never used to have that sort of attitude. So many people these days seem to be after the fast buck and it does not matter how they do it.

I suppose its the sort of attitude that stems from our leaders' example, especially when they are lying and cheating to claim enormous expenses which they are not entitled to, morally or otherwise!

Pity to see things go this way.
